Yeah, Tornado of Souls is the obvious one, but a place for the other solos of exceptional merit.
Tommy from Coroner is one of the finest there has ever or will ever be.

Jazzy Jeff in tha house...
Missing Mohammed in the other house.
I will die on the hill of David Davidson being the best guitarist in metal to emerge this century.
The best solo in thrash metal...
Incidentally, there's a nifty video of Davidson and Skolnick discussing jazz floating around online.
Bobby Gustafson may have looked like a Hetfield clone here but his solo is savage.
Bobby was class.
Glen Avelais was in quite a few of the Bay Area bands and never stayed long but he was the Big Pharma of thrash solos

Since it popped up on shuffle while I'm making dinner. Always loved the solo on this.
I might get abused for this... but Ross the Boss, Battle Hymn, solo... perfection!
John Christ, especially on Lucifuge.
Gary Moore's cover of Emerald..That solo..good lord
James Murphy. Could pick anything he has done but this one, in particular, every solo is perfect, even his divebombs are melodic

Could be right there
The best fluke in Deicides career produced one of my all time favourite solos:
Not metal, but I always thought Captain Sensible's riffs and solos wouldn't have sounded out of place in an NWOBHM album. A brilliant guitarist, miles better than anyone in the British punk scene.
Solo begins at 1:52 for those with no patience:
Metal adjacent (and in fairness Ringworm love thrash solos)
Love Piggy's solo on this.
Skip to 2 (sorry actually about 4 minutes and 40 seconds) minutes in and the rest will follow. Or just play the whole thing and wonder where he went wrong because by god did he go wrong with almost his whole career before and after this
Great tune. Caught a few lads off guard with that tune in the past when they realise it's moby
Always thought Psycho Holiday had the ultimate metal solo. There are other solos with more individual character, and other better solos in general, but just as a standard template of an archetypical absolutely rocking metal solo it's perfect.

Was in a lad's house last week and put most of this album on, they were pleasantly surprised lol. Savage savage album
Always liked Greg from Paradise Lost
Can only imagine how epic this must've sounded forty years ago.

Although King's and Hanneman's approach to soloing produced hit and miss results throuought their output, when it fits, my gosh, does it fit.
,,Seasons in the Abyss" being the prime example, ,,Gemini" being the one somehow overlooked. What is the best solo anyway? Is it the most flashy and technically advanced one, or is it one, which enhances the tune in a perfect way?
Darkthrone - Unholy Black Metal
The solo at 1.30 that Zephyrous does, thats basically saying fuck off according to Fenriz haha

Totally agree - one of my favorite guitar players. Not the flashiest, but writes great melodies and solos to suit the tunes. Love the solo from Widow.
