Title: Steve Maher leaves Abaddon Incarnate
Post by: Eoin McLove on June 04, 2024, 10:11:40 PM
Looks like Steve has decided to leave Abaddon Incarnate. For me the first two albums are untouchable, and The Last Supper in particular will remain in my personal pantheon of death. I think Steve is a talented dude so I hope he continues to create in some form. It looks like Abaddon will continue without him so that will surely mark a huge change in their sound as his rabid vocals are one of a kind. All the best to both him and the dudes and respect for 30 years on the frontlines.

I'm sure he has his reasons but Steve Maher is Abbadon incarnate. My interest in the band has dwindled in terms of recorded output but they're still great live. They'll never match the savagery of Last Supper or Nadir.

Personally I think the remainder of the band should operate as something else if they decide to push on.

Nah, Bill has been there since the start and if I'm not mistaken isn't Olan back on drums these days? I think they should feel free to use the name if everyone is fine with it within the band. It's 30 years of Bill's creative life as well.

Maybe, no disrespect intended to those guys but for me Steve is the x-factor in the band. Stylistically I think they've moved on, an opportunity for a fresh start or something different.

Everyone will have an opinion but I've no interest in seeing anyone else front the band.

I agree that Steve was the x factor in the band. His vocals and lyrics (especially on TLS) are just completely wild. I would take his vocals over your average death metal gurgler every time. I really hope we see him back in some kind of action soon.

Surprised by that. I agree completely with the Pagan Saviour.

Hard to imagine AI without Steve. It'll be totally different, but I definitely would trust Bill to make it something great. Those early classics are quality, but imo they've consistently put out strong material.

No disrespect to the band members in any shape or form but without Steve Maher providing that intensity it just won't be the same.
That absolutely feral, unhinged vocal style can't be replaced.

Steve is a great presence front and centre. Vicious frontman and funny as fuck, too.
It's gonna be really strange to not see him in the band, but it was always Steve and Bill so best of luck to Bill and the rest of the band continuing on.

Yeah huge respect. Some legacy to have, three decades and for Steve to have that massive presence as a frontman. Consistently too.

Disappointed to hear this, selfishly, being a big fan of the band for many's the year.  Steve is an absolutely vicious vocalist with massive stage presence, and is an immense song-writer.  I'd listen to any of the later 3 albums as much as I would the early stuff - they're all insane.

Best of luck to Steve, and to the rest of the band for the future.

Can't imagine Abaddon without Steve. Their recent stuff is very strong and proves that they've still 'got it'...but I just think he was so intrinsic to the band.

Took me about 25 years to properly get into them ,and he decides to leave! .Their performance at Urban Assault was top class, very good front man.

They are still ferocious live but I'm so glad I caught them back at the time of Last Supper, absolutely feral performances - that was the line-up Steve/Bill/Olan/Cory

Shite news, Steve is a beast of a frontman, and a killer songwriter. Played loads of gigs with them during the Nadir days, some mental sessions.

Tis Dave from Ground of Ruin in days of yore. Well up for the task of twinning Bill's vocals and fair play to him: will be tuning in to hear next release for sure.

Yeah wouldn't have thought of him off the top of my head but I think he has the chops to pull this off. Looking forward to the Catching them live now

Best of luck to Dave but what's the point of that video? Miming to a track he's not on.

Sorry, agreed dude. I woke up a little hungover and thought it was Daves vocals over the original track. So yeah pointless.
