The Tony Martin era gets the reissue treatment finally BUT is there any reason why 'The Eternal Idol' got left out? Guess I'll hold onto my copy of it so.
Different labels. Idol was on Warner, the others were on IRS. There's already a deluxe version of Idol which includes the (better) Ray Gillen recordings.
Payday tomorrow and I'm getting the box set. Can't wait for it. I've grown to really love Tyr and Headless Cross and I'm sure the others are good too but I'm not familiar with them. I thunk I'll go for the CD box as I'll want to listen to them in the car but I'm half tempted to get the vinyl box to have that Tyr album cover in its full glory... I'll see how I go on the lotto at the weekend.

Makes sense. Never got around to hearing the deluxe version.
This could be worth it for 'Headless Cross', got the cassette a few years ago and even that was quite pricey.
Can anyone who does buy this set let me know how it sounds? Have heard that it may have been brickwalled which would be a shame if so. Thanks.
Pre ordered the cd box when it was announced set so looking forward to it now....martins voice is like silk
Ordered. Hopefully it won't take too long to arrive from Sydney.

The price of this outside the US is fucking nuts. 50 dollars for the CDs over there, 129 euros in Tower? Get fucked. I might buy the high-res digital versions instead off qobuz. Iommi needs to get his wrinkled arse on bandcamp.
Listening to both Headless Cross and in particular Tyr in the car today took the sting out of the shit packaging. Fuck, they are savage albums.
Ordered the vinyl box and it is suppose to be arriving at some stage today. Wish they would do boxes for the self titled and Master of Reality. I got all of the other box sets which are great. The tour books that come with them are great for reading while listening to the albums.

Which boxset do you find the best?
These are the ones with the remastered album/alternative takes/dialogue/live?
Am looking to pick one up
No, John.
The Anno Domini sets are just the Tony Martin remastered albums and Forbidden remix.
The other sets are individual Ozzy albums with all the bells, whistles, doorknobs and kitchen sinks...
got the deluxe eternal idol digipak on amzon not too long ago for about 11 quid..it is savage
Just got the vinyl boxset off Scobes. Have always loved Headless Cross,Tyr and Cross Purposes but Forbidden always sounded a bit gammy.
Reading loads about how good the remix is so can't wait to give it a spin cos the tunes are definitely decent.

It's not the Anno Domini one I'm interested in
Just the Ozzy ones :)
eg Black Sabbath Vol 4 Super Deluxe that came out 2021
or
Paranoid Super Deluxe from 2020
or
Sabotage Super Deluxe from 2021
Wondering if they are worth picking up

I have all the first pressings (and a few others in some cases), so kinda reluctant to venture down that road myself.
The CD versions are quite tempting, though. 🤔

All of them are great just depends which album you would prefer most. The only one that isn't really essential is Live Evil.

Picked up Vol 4 Super Deluxe vinyl as it was the best value & gets good reviews
Cheers mickO)))!
I had Cross Purposes and Forbidden on this morning. I am not familiar with them at all so it's perhaps unsurprising to say I really prefer Headless Cross and Tyr. Tyr is just another level.
It seems the 90s were very unstable for Black Sabbath with endless lineup changes and a lack of certainty with direction. I'm curious about Forbidden because the book makes out that it was essentially a nu metal record but I can't hear that apart from the first song with Ice-T rapping a verse. It makes me wonder how much was changed in the new mix. Were entire sections removed? Were drum beats changed? Apparently there used to be 'up to date' keyboards all over it that have been brought back in the mix. What was going on there? Were there scratchy vinyl sounds and blips and bleeps all over the shop? I will have to listen to an original version to hear how awful the original was but as it stands my first impression is of a band still operating mostly in 80s mode, writing decent but not exactly exceptional hard rock/ heavy metal/ doom.
I expect I'll be obsessing over Headless Cross and Tyr for the foreseeable but hopefully the other two will sneak in under the radar with time.
I think the book is pure grand. I mean, most of it is culled from 80s/90s Kerrang and Metal Hammer interviews and the soundbite style and interminable repetition of information becomes mind numbing pretty quickly.
It's been a long time since I listened to Forbidden but I remember thinking the same about the nu metal comparisons, just got blown out of proportion because of Ice T's involvement
Must give it another go soon, thought it was fairly poor back then but I'm interested to see the difference between my original copy and this new mix.
The original mix of Forbidden was spectacularly poor and hid what might actually be a decent album. I've never been able to listen to it all the way through... until now 😂
This video covers the change quite nicely

I always loved Eternal Idol, I still say the title track is one of the finest and heaviest things Iommi ever did. This set is shining a light on a run of albums which are, perhaps, a lot better that they were ever given credit for, initally. I gave Headless Cross a spin last night and, yeah, it sounds magnificent, much better than the shitty 128k mp3s I had of it 😂 Looking back, the music just didn't fit the time. There wasn't really anything else which sounded like that in 89. Same goes for Tyr. Don't forget, Tyr was followed by the mighty Dehumanizer. That's four bangers in a row. Dehumanizer is the best of the Dio albums, for me, and one of the best ever under the Sabbath name. I remember being disappointed by Cross Purposes when it came out because it didn't have the aggression of Dehumanizer but I stil have that VHS and CD set they released from that tour which was class. It's interesting. If they had released them one by one, they might have just come and gone like a lot of reissues. Putting them out as a set makes you consider the whole era and, yeah, that run of Eternal Idol, Headless Cross, Tyr and Dehumanizer is not shabby at all, just didn't fit in with the music of the time.
'Dehumanizer' is very overlooked, the downtuned tone and drum sound is savage.
I have never listened to Dehumanizer, or Mob Rules for that matter. Plenty of quality Sabbath left for me to delve into 8)
Ah jaysus, man, sort that out, they're fucking amazing :abbath:

Indeed,.those are two mighty albums. Wait til you get that 'I' riff in your noggin.
Yeah, Dehumanizer is a top 5 Sabbath album easily, maybe even top 3.
Dehumanizer is killer

CHOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNN!
:abbath:
I sounds really good.
Never liked Dehumaniser for some reason....Dio's voice started to grate in this period for me
Some of ye might find this of interest:
I have to say, I'm really enjoying Cross Purposes a lot, much more than I ever did when it was released. Listening to it in this set, it sounds fucking cool coming after Tyr... but didn't sound so cool back then as the follow-up to Dehumanizer. Good gear.
Yeah, it's a solid album, thoroughly enjoyable. Some great riffs on there of course.
It's a bit lighter than Tyr and Headless Cross somehow. Might just be less thematically strong and the songs don't quite hit the same heights.
I see these are all getting individual LP and CD re-releases now too...
And to be honest they look great. Much better than each albums individual presentation in the box set.
LP's will be clear vinyl with info/lyric sleeves.
CDs look to be digipak or digisleeves.
I get that the box set had to be presented a certain way. And the LP version I am very happy with, but full size inner sleeves with info/lyrics would have really finished it, IMO.
And the CD version omitted all of this from the booklet.
So I presume this means the box set itself is now limited and done at this stage.
I might have to grab Tyr and perhaps even Headless Cross on vinyl so. The rest I can live without. The gimpy box CDs will do.
All the lyrics were included in the black booklet that came with the box so they didn't need to include inserts. I would take the box with the extras and black vinyl over clear reissues any day.
Yes! But the CD version didn't have the lyric pages in the booklet, at all!
The vinyl colour doesn't bother me either, but the having the lyrics/info on proper sleeves like the original albums would have been sweet. At least they were included in the LP book, though.
I don't know much about the CD version myself other that some people saying they were very cheaply done. The books in box are great as are the books that came with all of the Sabbath box sets.
This is handy as I don't have Cross Purposes or Forbidden so will pick them up on CD.
Tyr on at the minute. So fucking epic.
Albums from the box set are getting released separately next month on CD & vinyl.
Nice one. Didn't splash on the box set but have a couple needs picking up.
Added Headless/TYR on to the various wishlists that herself will hopefully check when she's doing the Xmas shopping.
I had Tyr and Headless Cross on my birthday wishlist but the missus said she's already bought me enough, so no CD's. :(
They're in my basket, just waiting for payday.

She's winding you up. She has them both bought on tape, CD, vinyl, t-shirt, mug, socks, undies, wallpaper... and if not, marching orders!
 She's probably hired Tony Martin to call over on the special day to serenade me with a selection of tunes from both albums. If not, then I'll be handing her divorce papers after she hands me a birthday card!

In all fairness the price of the box isn't all that bad given it's 27 records in what looks like proper sleeves plus other extras. The only bad thing is when it comes to the solo material half of it is good and half of it is shite.
Aye, hopefully it'll have the current pressings drop in price,

I kinda want Seventh Star to get the BMG repress treatment as it's the most 80s action movie montage thing ever. Glenn Hughes rules.

I think Music Zone in Cork does stuff for RSD
Yeah would like to pick up Deicide and Eternal Idol. What's the deal with this...any participating shop will just get In random records and its luck of the draw type thing?
There's an element of that to it. Eternal Idol will probably get another pressing from BMG as the Anno boxset was a success and they sold them separately later. Best thing to do is check with whoever's local to ya and see if they can hook you up on the day.

The few Listenable releases I own are good I just wish they would reissue the 3 Immolation albums that came out through them.
I think early Deicide reissues are having problems because of the dispute with the Hoffman bros. Someone else was also suppose to do some reissues then a few months after they were announced all the adverts etc. for the reissues just disappeared. I can't remember which label was doing them.
Think Run Out Groove had an option after the boxset but didn't go with it the sales weren't there, then Listenable tried.
Looks like "Heavan & Hell" (band) is giving the last Dio album a pretty decent looking boxset makeover.
The Devil You Know + bonus tracks
