4. ALtar of Plagues - Teethed Glory & Creamy Guinness
5. Abaddon Incarnate - The Last Supper
& You? :abbath:
How many albums do Fatima Mansions have again?
Ah no only winding, good idea should get some good stuff brought up. Where's McLove, he loves list threads iirc

Johnny nearly cleared the decks there. Was in 4 of the bands and played on 3 of the releases. Maybe change it to releases rather than albums given the inclusion of the demo, or strike the demo.
I didn't even realise that but yeah I guess Johnny is easily one of the best professional metal drummers from Ireland; he has done very well for himself.
Yeah releases, albums, eps, demos, "projects".. whatever- it's all good. Top 5 lets go I am curious to see for others what the fuck could beat out The Gathering Wilderness...
Abaddon Incarnate - The Last Supper
Primordial- The Gathering Wilderness
Mourning Beloveth - Dust
Rebirth of Nefast/Slidhr - Ex Nihilio
Wreck of the Hesperus - Eulogy for the Sewer Dwellers
Not ranked. Toss up between Dust and The Sullen Sulcus.
In no particular order -
PRIMORDIAL - The Gathering Wilderness
ZEALOT CULT - Spiritual Sickness
DREAD SOVEREIGN - For Doom The Bell Tolls
STEREO NASTY - Nasty By Nature
ZOM - Flesh Assimilation
Abaddon Incarnate- The Last Supper.
Mourning Beloveth- The Sullen Sulcus (or Dust or Formless depending on the day)
Primordial- Spirit the Earth Aflame.
Arcane Sun- s/t
Geasa- Angels Cry (a controversial one for myself as I hated it for twenty years and have grown to love it in the past two)
Not in any order.
It's 5.30am on Friday here in Oz. I have today off work and I'm up at my usual work time despite turning off the alarm so I might as well put the free time to good use and stick on one or two of these local classics before the family begin to stir :)
By top, I am going to say the ones I have probably listened to and went back to the most over the years, from 5 different bands (an actually top 5 would probably be just Primordial and Mourning Beloveth albums).
Primordial - The Gathering Wilderness
Mourning Beloveth - Dust
Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak
Waylander - Reawakening Pride Once Lost
Old Season - Volume One (listened to this so much when it came out)
Not an album but ,Hexxed- Transgression is up there with the best to come out of Ireland.
Wait, we are including Lizzy? Sure they would take all 5 spots so...
You know what I haven't listened to The Gathering wilderness in years, will put it on now!.
Quote from: Paul keohane on May 16, 2024, 10:18:42 PMNot an album but ,Hexxed- Transgression is up there with the best to come out of Ireland.
Without a doubt. Needs a vinyl release.
I'll Eat Your Face - Hot Brains Terror or Irritant, I can't pick one, are definitely in my top 5.
Thin Lizzy were not a heavy metal band, can we just get that out of the way now?
Quote from: The Wretch on May 16, 2024, 10:22:59 PMWait, we are including Lizzy? Sure they would take all 5 spots so...
Yeah;No- I think we should stick to Irish METAL records of any sort & not include rock or other genres here. I love Thin Lizzy as much as the next Irish rocker, but if someone starts listing The Joshua Tree next to The Last Supper now; I think we will lose our way. I brought up this topic to see what metal albums from Irish bands are as incredible as Primordial's best album.
No surprise really so far it would appear we have learned again that The Gathering Wilderness is often Primordial's most revered & top rated work. You just can't deny the genius & virtue of songs like The Golden Spiral & The Coffin Ships. I like all their albums but this one is perfect. I think its both the best Irish heavy metal record as it the best black or celtic metal album.
Also of course we can see that any Irish metalhead worth their weight respects & hails humbly the sheer undeniable brutality captured on that fuckin The Last Supper album. Nadir is not bad too-but didn't really click with me, the rest of their stuff less so...but Last Supper has got to be the best Irish death metal album still.
Mourning Beloveth never really did shit for me. I might revisit down them the line.
ZOM for me, I enjoy their aesthetic; but their actual music bored the hole off me, it just crosses the line for me I guess into just fuckin noise.
Not easy. I'm pretty much starting at this point too and trying to think my way out of it:

Altar of Plagues - Mammal
Scald - Headworm
Primordial - The Gathering Wilderness
Graveyard Dirt - For Grace or Damnation
Owlcrusher - s/t
Coldwar - Bloodfire Sunset
For Ruin - Ater Angelvs
Primordial - Calm Before Storm
Abbadon Imcarnate - The last Supper

Atheos - The Human Burden
Primordial- The Gathering Wilderness
Mourning Beloveth - Formless
Altar of Plagues - Teethed Glory
Arcane Sun st
U2 the Joshua tree
I see what you did there
At least he didn't stick it beside The Last Supper,we would have lost our way entirely :'(
Primordial - To the Nameless Dead
Primordial - Exile Amongst the Ruins
Darkest Era - The Last Caress of Light
Mourning Beloveth - Rust and Bone
Old Season - Archaic Creation
Going to go by releases myself, thinking of ones I've listened to the most from the past 25 years ->
Primordial - To The Nameless Dead
Slidhr - Deluge
Old Season - Volume One (The Claw is one of the first songs I can remember when first diving into Irish Metal and what a song!!)
Malthusian - Demo MMXIII
Hexxed- Transgression
Gama Bomb - Terror Tapes
Mael Mordha - Cluain Tarbh
Corr Mona - Abhainn
Thin Lizzy - Thunder and Lightning (their most metal album so I'm counting it!)
Vicious Head Society - Abject Society (total Dream Theater worship, and that's a great thing for me)
There hasn't really been any great amount of power/proggy stuff coming from here. Overwhelming majority seem to be of the black/death variety
In no order
Malthusian - Across Deaths
Abaddon Incarnate - The Last Supper
Terminus - The Reapers Spiral
Blood Revolt - Indoctrine (Can I count this one??)
Mourning Beloveth - Dusk
Could swap any of these for Slidhr - Deluge or Mykyr - Black Illuminations also.
Blood Revolt is 2/3 Canadian so no dice.
QuoteCorr Mona - Abhainn
This one really is something else IMO, so good
Moral Crusade - Immoral Condition
Predator - 4 Track Demo
Synapse - Cries of the Unborn
Curseed Earth - Symbiosis
Atheos - The Death of Utopia
In no particular order:
Primordial - To the Nameless Dead
Abaddon Incarnate - The Last Supper
Malthusian - Across Deaths
Putrefaction - Blood Cult
Senzar - Senzar

It truly is a thing of beauty, slipped my mind somehow when I was thinking of the top 5.
sure ya could do a top 50 and they'd all be top notch albums
In no order
Primordial - A Journey's End
Primordial - Spirit the Earth Aflame
Primordial - The Gathering Wilderness
Primordial - To the Nameless Dead
Malthusian - Across deaths
Nice to see a few mentions of Across Deaths. It seemed to receive a fairly muted response upon its release, if I remember correctly.
Corr Mhóna, Slidhr and Old Season could all feature in my list depending on my mood. Same with Rebirth of Nefast. Maybe even the quietly forgotten Altus Astrum whose album was really high quality.

Didn't The Vicious Head Society chap post on the old forum? I used to chat to him a bit on a videogaming forum (Eurogamer).
Would love to see the stuff in a love setting, but appreciate that'd be a bit tricky.
If it's releases we're doing, can I have the AoP boxset as one of mine?
By one from each band, gonna go with...
Primordial - TGW
Mourning Beloveth - Could be almost any of them, but The Sullen Sulcus just as it's the one I've listened to most over the years, first one I bought, etc.
Altar of Plagues - Mammal
Malthusian - Demo MMXIII
And eh... Sodb maybe? Or Slidhr. Or Dread Sovereign.
I don't really know Corr Mhóna, must give them a proper listen.
Primordial - Spirit the Earth Aflame
Thin Lizzy - Thunder and Lightning (Not my favourite Thin Lizzy album but as mentioned before, the metal album so...)
Malthusian - Below the Hengiform
Mourning Beloveth - The Sullen Sulcus
Slidhr - Deluge
Honourable mention to Gama Bomb - Citizen Brain and Scath na Deithe - Pledge Nothing but Flesh

Actually I'm going to give my 5th place to the Vicious Head Society - Extinction level event. Great album from 2021. New album in the works.
Progressive metal of the highest order.

I'd imagine not a lot of women would go for that kind of thing to be honest. The band might feel a bit awkward looking on as well, unless they're total pervs.
I can't put them in order and it would change every so often
Primordial - TTND
Abaddon Incarnate - The Last Supper.
Vircolac - The first 2 demos
Warpath - Gorefare
Frustration -Dying Breed.
It's impossible to narrow it do to 5. There's all the Therapy? stuff.
I'll Eat Your Face, Ten Point Rule, Revolution Of A Sun.... The unreleased Belinus demo.
1. Scáth na Déithe - The Dirge of Endless Mourning
2. Putrefaction - Blood Cult
3. Altar of Plagues - White Tomb
4. Abaddon Incarnate - Pessimist
5. Unyielding Love - Flesh of the Furnace
Yes White tomb is great. All 3 Altar of Plagues are great and all deserve place here.

I'm convinced the auto "correct" algorithm is designed to troll
Mael Mordha - 2nd Demo
Primordial- Spirit..that opening guitar
Mourning Beloveth – A Murderous Circus
Waylander - Reawakening
Celtic Legacy - Resurrection
Odlum - Organ Odlum
Liga -Liga C classic third album
Dream Topping - Are there deserts in Hell? Proggy but still decent
Winter's Reign - mini album
No sweat - No sweat.
Classics all. 😀

I'd forgotten warpath existed, fuck it they were mighty back in the day
Overoth-Kingdom of Shadows,I always rated that fairly highly in Irish circles.

Another great release, I remember them being savage at the most controversial day out ever that was Low End fest.
What happened there?
There were pages and pages about it on Metal Ireland. A lot of us here were at it.
It was a brilliant day but things didn't go exactly to plan .

I remember reading this at the time bit can't recall the details. Going to have to give it a read through and hopefully the majority will still be there
Some of that festival was mighty craic, despite what was revealed subsequently. Some of the young lads at the bar were fair startled by all the hairies swarming the bar.
And anyways -
Primordial - TGW, STEA
Mael Mordha - Damned When Dead
AOP - White Tomb
Mourning Beloveth - Rust and Bone
Never even heard of that MM album.
Damned When Dead was their last album.
And I'd agree with 'Caomhaoin' above.
They are a band who only got better with each release.
Primordial-To The Nameless Dead
Altar of Plagues-White Tomb
Malthusian-MMXIII
Mourning Beloveth-Dust
Vircolac-Masque
Going for 6, because I count good
Altar Of Plagues - White Tomb
Primordial - A Journey's End
Drainland – And So Our Troubles Began
Nomadic Rituals – Tides
For Ruin - Last Light
From The Bogs Of Aughiska – Roots Of This Earth Within My Blood
PS Overoth, The Grief, Zom, Procession Of Spectres (get an album out!), the mighty OGRE!
I don't think there was any mention of Sonus Mortis yet.
Some bangers there.

That Nomadic Rituals one is so good. They're definitely one of my favourite bands.
