Title: Boltzmann Brain- Death Songs (Ire/Aus)
Post by: Eoin McLove on May 04, 2024, 04:46:29 AM
Boltzmann Brain is a project I've been working on for the past year or two.  The original idea was to combine the stark gothic moments of Turn Loose the Swans with the somnolent industrial post punk of Therapy?'s 'Deep Sleep' to see where it would take me. From there it took on a life of its own. CDs available now. All abuse welcome.

It has been self released on my own label, Pondscum Records.

Here's hoping. It's not too late for early retirement.

I actually think there's an eerie vibe to it similar to Jacula's "Anno Demoni" at times, but it all sounds a bit drier musically.

The "Ritual" and "The Hour of Death" tracks stand out more.

I listened to Jacula years ago but can't remember anything. I'll check them out again later and see. Cheers.

I dropped the download price from 7$ to $4.

CDs are only $12, but postage from here is pretty eye watering so I'm going to post a few to Invictus at the weekend for any Irish who might be tempted to stray off the beaten track.

Completely missed this thread but I'm looking forward to giving this a proper spin tomorrow when I have a bit of peace, finally.

Makes for good late night music! Second listen tonight. Interesting vibe, like dungeon synth meets dark goth.

This is deadly, had it on earlier today and again there on the headphones and picked up even more of it.  Love the sparse feel of it and the layering in each song.  The run of tracks in the middle of the album is lethal but Sacred Hour particularly stood out.  Very Burzum and Dodheimsgard buzz off a lot of it, their particular creepier and subtler parts.  Great stuff anyway I will be back to it

I was sitting here after a feed of drink and pipes, watching videos of trains in the Swiss mountains, and thought "hey I had just the soundtrack for this on earlier" and here we are

Nice one chaps. I like those descriptions  8)

Regarding Sacred Hour the whole point of that song is about being a parent, having very limited time to yourself and how sacred those quiet moments become. You can hear my son's voice in the background! As I was recording it he opened to door and says, "Dad, dinner is ready!". I was recording the "peace and quiet" vocals at the time and I laughed thinking, perfect! I had to leave his voice in.

Invictus will have a very small number of CDs for sale in the very near future.

This is great, was intrigued from the description. Don't think it aligns with what I'm hearing but the end result is cool none the less. (Though there was a section in one of the tracks that reminded me of Zipless from Therapy?'s Nurse album)

Did you play everything on the record? Looking forward to picking one up - if you can let us know when Invictus have them I'll lob in an order.

Yep, I played everything. I don't think it sounds remotely like I had intended or expected it to, but I can still hear elements of those ideas in there.

Ah yeah, it's always hard to make a comparison especially when it's your own stuff. Looking forward to picking one up.

Ray Keenaghan made a promo video which gives a little bit of context to the ideas on the album.

Somehow missed this initially then saw the promo Ray did, picked a good time of year to throw it on love the slow dreary atmosphere throughout. Cool concept for the name too.
