Anyone pick up the relapse vinyl reissues? They have done a great job on them all. The Wes Benscoter artwork looks glorious in that format.
The music is what it is, it's not something I listen to on a daily basis but some of those riffs really hit the spot. I could do without the feckin lengthy intros though. I've seen live footage of them and the show looks ridiculous with the lads standing around whilst a 2.5minute sample plays through the speakers.
Anyone know why they haven't put out anything since Reanimated Dead Flesh? They still play shows around the States, I presume they don't do anything in Europe after Will's taxi escapade in Poland but fail to see how that would prevent them recording anything new.
One of my favourite bands and still a very regular listen for me to this day. I didn't get the Relapse reissues as I already have the ones Hells did. The intros are great and they don't do a lot of standing around for intros since they started playing live again probably Bloodcraving or Audra have the longest intros of the songs they play regularly these days.
It would be great seeing them live and hearing those intros. I was hoping to head to Boston to see them when I was in Canada on holiday last year it didn't work out and I am glad it didn't in the end as Will wasn't able to make it to the show because of a flight cancellation so they just had someone else stand in doing vocals which would have been shit after the travel / money it would have cost to make it to the show.
Roger has had loads of stuff ready for the new album for a few years now but the problem is getting Will to do vocals. Roger lives in Vegas now and Will is still in New York which doesn't help things either. The current drummer Sam will also play on the new album if it ever gets released so it won't be a drum machine. They also have plans to do a Final Bloodbath Session part 2 with the current drummer.

Cool! Will check those links out, loads of good info there!
Mortician are kind of the Plan 9 From Outer Space (look it up if that means nothing) of the death metal world. So utterly ridiculous (almost shit in a non shit way) that it just works.

And constantly checking your speakers to see is it actually buzzing or just their feckin' drum machine😂
The rehearsal footage is sweet but the interview is hilarious- could they not have found a more appropriate setting?
Fairly cool band to be fair so heavy it borders on being ridiculous ha ha ha. I didn't know relapse released the albums on vinyl now. I have most on cd anyway, they are definitely a bucket list Death Metal band for me
This band sound to me like maybe Cannibal Corpse or Morbid Angel would sound to my non metal friends - "It's just noise!"
Love the Chainsaw Dismemberment album cover though.
Tried numerous times over the years to get into them but have come to the realisation that they are utter scutter .
I didn't know their stuff was reissued, any Mortician I have is from C-90 trades, would definitely pick up the vinyls but I haven't seen them floating about any of my usual haunts. Relapse stuff is a bit scarce on the ground in Europe generally is it these days?
I got mine off Amazon - worked out best from there, though I did notice Spindizzy in Dublin have or had them.

Have seen a few live vids where you can't hear his vocals as they're too deep for the PA to reproduce!

Ah ,I see them there now, cheers...the list just got longer

That's the problem as can be even seen in this thread the band is just too heavy for some people. They have seen a surge in popularity over the last 2 - 3 years the US shows are always packed.
A split with Dead Infection was also suppose to come out around 07 / 08 I even remember it being discussed on the old forum but that never happened for whatever reason and at this stage I would guess the Dead Infection tracks were used on a different split.
Another good band to check out is Massacred. A one man tribute to Mortician.

Bit mad they are together since 89, but the first album was released in 97. Big gap like

Awesome, exactly what I'm looking for! Any other recommendations?
It usually backfires when I try find similar stuff. I picked up Slob's album last year as they were billed as Mortician with a back woods deliverance style theme. That and the artwork hooked me in, but the music ended up being shit and the samples were the likes of the rape scenes from Deliverance, I spit on your grave etc. Don't think I ever made it past the second or third song.
Fluids - Exploitative Practices is definitely an album that feels insanely influenced by and more or less parallel universing Mortician for the most part
Massacred is the only clone band. Fluids who were mentioned already and Mortuary Ghoul are the only other two bands I can think of who sound a bit like Mortician.
Can't get past the thick artwork and song titles from Fluids lads?
Massacred however are excellent! May as well be Mortician.
Will seems to be quite a character

QuoteHe was throwing punches and being belligerent. Kudos to security for doing there job and giving the same fair treatment to everyone. Whether you're in a band or not. You gotta check yourself.
He showed up to a show in Chicago pissed out of his head last year the video of it is on youtube somewhere. He did manage to keep together. It wasn't really intentional because his flight to the show was delayed for something like 12 hours which he spent stuck in the boarding area so he just passed the time by going to the bar
Never heard a note from these lads until today (I was mixing them up with Mortification), put on a bit of their first album. A couple of decent riffs but otherwise sub-demo level shite. Awful drum machine patter and murky vocals.
Domain and Darkest Day were reissued on vinyl by Relapse this week for those who need them.
Ah sweet, need both.
Re-animated is on their own label right? Doubt that'll be included with this run?
Hells are doing Re-Animated but the plant they use still seems to be having delays.

Sweet, thanks Mick. That'll complete the collection.
Have Mortician ever played here back in the day? Be cool to see them
Don't think they were ever here. Think they've only done relatively few shows in Europe in general.
Quote from: Necro Red on April 29, 2024, 10:12:42 AMHave Mortician ever played here back in the day? Be cool to see them
No never played here and never will. They have only toured Europe 4 times in 01, 02, 03 and 05. They most likely will never play outside the US ever again. Even now they just play one off shows around the US and haven't done any sort of tour since the 2005 European one. They did a small mini us tour in 2017 of 4-5 shows.
You'd think they would do a good tour of Europe with some other relapse bands. Definitely a live bucket list band
Can't imagine them being a huge draw in a headlining capacity. What did Incantation do the other week? 120 Could be looking at that or less for these on a nightly basis.

They would do very well even just touring on their own. Majority of the shows since they started back playing live 2-3 years ago in the US are selling out well in advance. They are very popular with the trendy crowd right now which is why Hells are trying to push to get the album recorded as it would sell very well at the minute but 5 years from now who knows.
They won't play outside US again after what happened on the last European tour. Some European festivals have tried and they were all turned down.

A lot of that is down to no Craig Pillard and many people thinking they are well past it with Diabolical being the last good thing they released. The Mortician line-up has never changed, they are better now then they ever were and they are one of the most unique bands in metal love them or hate them most people know who they are a good number of people would even go out of curiosity just to see what they are like live.
QuoteDiabolical being the last good thing they released
Ah here - they're one of the most consistent DM bands in the business!
I have said on here plenty of times I enjoy all the material I own a physical copy of every single release including the live in Brazil album but a lot of other people don't feel the same.
I would consider them very consistent too. They would rip it up in Europe playing with the likes of Dying Fetus or Nile etc. Ya never know

With all the love that Dying Fetus are getting from hardcore kids nowadays it'd be a bit of a draw.
