Title: Iron Monkey - Spleen & Goad
Post by: Pagan Saviour on February 24, 2024, 08:42:29 PM
New record on the way, hadn't heard a peep about this myself but looking forward to it

QuoteUK sludge trio IRON MONKEY return with their highly anticipated new album, Spleen & Goad!
On Spleen & Goad, the legendary band are as uncompromising as ever, churning out some of the most gritty sounding sludge doom in their 25 + year history. Dubbed a "doom sludge vanguard" by The Sludgelord, IRON MONKEY live up to their legacy, absolutely pummeling through each of the 9 tracks on their new album.
From the two-ton, heavier-than-anything-else riff opening "Concrete Shock", IRON MONKEY show no signs of easing up; fuzzed out guitars crash against pulse-pounding drums, set against vicious, misanthropic snarls and barks. Elsewhere, tracks like the aptly titled "Rat Flag" kicks the band into high gear with palpable fury and malaise.
Recorded in their native Nottingham, Spleen & Goad was mastered stateside by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege.
Release date: April 5, 2024

Thanks!

Gave it a spin and was underwhelmed. Sounds too clean too. I have the record ordered anyway so will get into it properly then.

I give it a listen as I have never listened to Iron Monkey before, was only familiar with the name.   Wasn't for me.

Nah. That first self titled record is absolutely perfect and might be the best "sludge" record ever, don't need anything else by them, let alone new stuff.

It's fucking brilliant. Morrow sounds absolutely unhinged on it

Honestly, the riff is perfect, and when the drums kick into that scream it's like Godzilla stomp on your head. One of the greatest moments in music generally, let alone metal.

Earache will probably reissue it when the new one comes out because Digby needs more cash to promote whatever gobshite Quireboys lookalike band he's got on the label

Despite the lack of Johnny Morrow and Justin Greaves (for obvious reasons), that gig in the Underworld in 2018 was amazing. The album they were promoting (9-13) not so much and undoubtedly it will be the same with this new one.
