100% Correct. Sounded like it was written by a Deicide song generator.

I fucking love it, it's unapologetically Deicide and there's nothing wrong with that in my book. Deadly twin vox too.
Sweet little surprise of a Christmas morning.
Good man Glen!

The double vocals are great and after a couple of sneaky listens I think it's better than the last release.

I'm a few cans deep but I actually think that's the most interesting thing I've heard from deicide in years, cool artwork too.

Yeah I enjoyed that. Have they done it before? Sure. Can they produce better? Doubtful. Might be the day that's in it but I'm happier to see some embers of the old flame rather than more of the incredibly dull newer releases.

The main thing that kills me about modern Deicide is that there was a point in the early days that Glen Benton and David Vincent were absolutely unparalleled in the clarity of their vocals and being able to hear every word while sounding so rabid and violent but now ol' glen sounds like he's singing in some basement slam band.

It's so-so. I can't be bothered with anything after Serpents Of The Light anyway TBH, Scars Of The Crucifix included (it seems to be held in high regard, for some reason).

I'm actually a huge DEICIDE fan, I think they are savage, but that track isn't really up to much at all. I do appreciate the irony and brilliance of releasing it titled as such on Christmass Day however and agree with the sentiment that Christianity has no place in this day and age anymore whatsoever.

Anyone who thinks Scars Of The Crucifix isn't one of the best death metal albums is clearly mental it is brilliant. Guitar work is insane. its so good its like a fluke for them.

Maybe I should be in the pet peeves thread but the dreaded "the best since"
For any band usually means it's shit, you'll listen 4-5 times then it'll sit on a shelf if you've bought a physical copy. Any subsequent time you think of reaching for it you'll realise Deicide in this case haven't released a good record since 1995, maybe 1997 at a push.

Do any of us really put much time and effort into recent/new releases by the old guard DM bands?,it really only spikes a bit of interest because of who they are.Like by saying its a decent/good track really is just an acknowledgement that a once great band can still release something thats not total dirt.

Picked up scars of the crucifix in a charity shop for 50c last year. It has never made its way out of the box. I think that's my answer to the question right there. And I used to buzz hard off deicide up until serpents of the light.

Yeah nothing new here. Everything up til Serpents.. gets played regularly but they've been phoning it in for years aside from the odd decent song hear and there.

Love that new track, esp the vocals actually (gas video too). Im sure the album will be interesting for a while and then drift away like all their newer stuff... but you never know...

Stench of Redemption was the last thing of note they did for me, an incredible (surprise) of an album, largely down to the great guitar pairing on that one. Great coverage of their early years in the Scott Burns book (which everyone should read!)

New tracks are gack.

Stench is massively overrated to me. No staying power. It was a novelty to hear the elements that Santolla brought to them, it was a departure and therefore good. It was a flash in the pan for me.

Scars I think has loads of merit. Not their best by any stretch, but I listen to it a few times a year and always enjoy it. Maybe nostalgia is a part of that, it was one of the first new albums I got new when it came out as a death metal fan. I think it's an honest effort with good hooks and memorable songs, that don't have as much of that cartoony vibe a lot of their mid period stuff has. The title track is one of my favourite Deicide songs, easy.

I find that xmas video genuinely funny. The thing is I wish they were a bit more evil and brooding. I kook at Behenoth music videos of the last few years and reckon deicide should be doing something similar.

So insanely by the numbers Benton. The odd cool but here and there but it's a forgettable generic record.

He's all salty about "death metal bands looking like Weezer" because Decibel didn't give him a cover feature probably.

Saw them a few days later in London - pretty much the only bucket list band I had yet to see. Gotta say, for all the dodgy live reputation, they absolutely killed it - the 'new guy' seems to have done wonders for them.

That BA performance footage is really excellent. I haven't gone back to the recent album that much but the current lineup seems to be great to be fair. The backing vocals live are great (see Dead By Dawn in that clip)... hope we get to see them here again at some stage with this lineup...

Great footage, as always. That's as good a Deicide performance as I've seen in a long while and that's a killer setlist. Saw them a heap from like 04-10 or something and not since. Asheim's  playing is ace.

Possessed announced as the replacement, but saw a headline that grabbed my attention "Possessed added to Exodus bill despite allegations"

Didn't realise this was going on....

Quote"There is something that I want to address with you before it gets out of hand. And hopefully clear things up. Or at the very least, add some perspective.

"During the time I was in hospital or shortly after, I responded and had a general correspondence with a 16-year-old fan and her boyfriend. Those of you who know me know that I have never had a problem chatting with any fans. I chat with people from all levels of society, backgrounds, and ages. And up til now I have never had any problems.

"I have known this particular person, who is coming out with allegations directed at me, since around August. I was always polite, kind, and proper. We had been texting each other with metal-related stuff. I wanted to help her and her boyfriend out with their band, and I gave them VIP tickets to my show. But in the few days directly after my surgery (in October) this person really started making off-color comments. Several times I said I'm not comfortable with this and let her know as kindly and gently as possible. I'm old enough to be her father, or grandfather for that matter. It was my mistake for not just saying, 'hey enough' and cutting it off at the very first sign. It was irresponsible for me not to, I did not want to hurt her feelings. I tried to sort of ease out of the conversation looking for an out so I could remove myself entirely from the situation on multiple occasions. I want to set the record straight because the way this is being portrayed online does not accurately show our interactions.

"My mistake was trying to be too cavalier about it, making too many jokes, especially when taken out of context and cut together it can seem damning.

"Keep in mind that these conversations were happening in between sleepless nights and pain filled days directly after my surgeries and during the time I was in the hospital or shortly afterwards and I wasn't really focusing on it, but, I did tell her that it had to stop, and I was going to block her if she continued to send me messages. Beyond that, I was told after the fact by those close to me that I was sending them ramblings and nonsense's during this time as well when I was heavily on pain medications. While she persistently messaged me to continue talking, I said no, I am blocking her.

"I felt this was a fan interaction and I did not feel as though I had done anything to make her feel threatened or uncomfortable based on the flow of the conversation. I never asked for anything or tried to pressure her into anything. She kept trying to get me to agree to text her something to the effect of a relationship plan of action which is OBVIOUSLY out of the question. Up until this point our conversations were always extremely light and proper.

"Right after I blocked her, she had connected with my ex-girlfriend who has a history of trying to paint me as negatively as humanly possible without substantiation. She chose to start publicly sending out calculated screenshots that were craftily strung together and wildly out of context. My ex-girlfriend also started spreading rumors about me and trying to create a false narrative back then, and a couple more times in between then and now. Lots of drama. And up until now, her motives have been more than transparent because people know me pretty well and because I do talk a lot and say ridiculous out of pocket things that are funny to me but not meaningful in any way. They've easily seen right through it.

"I'm also seeing a LOT of false narratives and outright lies. But I want to lay all doubts to rest and let you know that I am not and never have been anything but legitimate. I have been on this earth 56 years now and I've never had any problems of this kind, whatsoever. I worked my entire life and made my name and band around my exemplary reputation, my love of Metal, my love for my fans and my supporters. I'm a family man with two wonderful children. Many of you may not know this but other than touring and doctor's appointments, I haven't left the house for well over 15 years. Because of my condition I'm bedridden except for when I tour or go to doctor's appointments. It is beyond ridiculous to think that I'd be chasing around young girls in my condition or that I would EVER want to, by any means. Never in a million years would I try to sneak around with a 16-year-old kid, I saw her as a fan.

"I am gonna end this by saying this. I know in my heart of hearts that I've made a mistake, coming from a place of harmless humor and the drive to recognize fans as friends, when I should be more mindful of the impression I give to the people I respond to, as I value the connection with my community above almost all else.

"I understand the perception of me and my actions and how I've disappointed my audience. I understand now that connecting with any and every fan that I can is irresponsible, not always helpful and can create an uncomfortable situation. I am sorry for the discomfort I have left with her and with all of you. Knowing that this is not a matter to take lightly, I can only say that no matter what happens going forward, I will have learned and continue to be a better man the best I can. My intentions were clear and never had any ill intent.

"My music is everything to me. I have put my entire life into my music. And all I wanna do is play for you and continue with this life that never seems to happen. And to those who have defended me, thank you, you are the best and the reason I keep going. Thank you for being so brave and caring. But first I gotta get well and get back to resting and recuperating. ❤️????

"Seven Lords of an evil and fatal force
Levitate through the sacred and mystic doors
Unbegun premanating bizarre
Swept away.. to the castle of CANDYAAAAARSE"

It's safe to say Eric didn't write any of the lyrics for Deicide.

Was there something on the Metal Show on 2FM with John Kenny that all of a sudden he just stopped playing Deicide, I think he said "just not gonna play them anymore" was it because of "Once Upon The Cross" or something?

Oooh boy. Yes, and teenage me was so incensed that I wrote in to him to call him a hypocrite for shunning them and still playing Cradle of Filth with some choice language. Got a letter back, on headed RTE paper, in which he literally told me to fuck off.

Prior to the end of MI, Ciaran had been trying to organise an interview with him for the podcast and I think asked a couple of us if we wanted in. I was in and had great plans to bring that up!

Remember that as well, I think he referenced the fact it had been released in the run up to Easter or something like that. Either way, it was always obvious that Kenny had very little interest in the more extreme side of metal (if even metal in general) and he was similarly disparaging re Emperor when In the Nightside Eclipse ended up on the Soundcellar Top 10 for God knows how long.
