March 25th, fully seated
https://www.nch.ie/all-events-listing/sunn-o/
Wow!
I saw this on the UMack page earlier. Should be good. Last time I saw them in 2017 was all seated, it was great just having a smoke and watching them.
Holy fuck. My eyes glossed over this post at first.
Ah feck so much going on in March
Would have been very tempted by this (still gutted I missed them in Galway years ago), but after Swans I'm retired.
A couple of hundred tickets already sold
Seeing them as a duo should be good, rather than with quests, etc
My only worry is that some of their stuff has effects/vocals that won't be reproducible as a duo. Still, it's the kind of music that it shouldn't really matter.
Yeah it'll be purely guitars. VERY glad this is a seated show
Looks like about 75% of the tickets have sold already. Every time I have seen them has been with Attila it will be interesting to see what they are like without them. In 2016 I saw them playing in an abandoned electrical generating station at the unsound festival which was a great setting for them and the last time I saw them at that seated show in 2017 they kept setting off the fire alarms.
Last time I saw SunnO))) was in the Button Factory and their dry ice units were setting off smoke alarms also.
I've seen them a fair few times - not sure I can handle a seated gig. Don't feel like being pinned in a seat.
The staff at the NCH can be jobsworths too. I saw Kamasi Washington there a few years back, went to the jacks and was told that I would not be allowed back into the auditorium until the song finished and there was an applause break. I can understand it for opera or plays or something but for a 9-piece jazz ensemble, stoned out of their heads, giving it absolute socks and whose songs are 10 - 20mins long each? I ended up looking through a window in the lobby at the band I'd paid to see.
If that's the case for SunnO)) then you might want to bring an empty bottle.
I love that part of the nch that you can just sit and watch the show with out people up and down the whole time. And the setup seems to cut out the chatty folk too.
Ah balls, sold out. If anyone is flogging two tickets I'll happily purchase them.
Where's good to park for this?

Quinn's lane is free after 7 and usually has a few spots
I've 2 tickets for this, but don't fancy the trek down after Emperor on Saturday, anyone need tickets?
Will sell for face value...

My missus is looking for one or are you hoping to sell as a pair?
Will sell separately, but it's 2 seats beside eachother
Can I buy them both? I'm hunting for two tickets together.
Yeah, no probs, pmd you.
Emperor and Sunn0))) in the space of a couple of days! Deadly!
It's so fancy like. Proper glasses :abbath:
Enjoyed that though I was knackered and my ears were fucked for the last 15 minutes.
Did Anderson sneak off for a piss in the middle?

Haha was wondering the same. Seen them in Berghain last September and he didn't leave the stage at all.
Enjoyed it myself. Was parched though. Can understand no pints in the room, but not even a can of coke was a bit over the top
That was an incredible setup, like the Stonehenge of guitar amps. Glad I had ear plugs.
We had Jess Sykes to gently tickle our souls with melody, and Sunn o))) to tickle our guts with the vibrations from their feedback and distortion. In a couple of places, I reckon they were pretty close to discovering the brown note. My sphincter started reverberating at one point...
Did they just improvise the whole time? Setlist.fm has sets up for previous shows, but I couldn't discern anything song-like tonight (I stopped trying after the first thirty minutes and just went with the meditative flow.)
Also, there seemed to be a surprisingly large non-metal crowd (maybe half?). Ironically, I heard someone express surprise that metalheads would be interested in this kind of thing.
Not that big a surprise, I always got the sense they had a wide enough following, and the live shows are such an experience I'd say plenty were there out of curiosity. Definitely spotted a few heads who'd have given me shit in school for liking heavy music, haha.
Really was very impressive both sonically and visually, amazing what you can do with some smoke and a few lights when you manipulate them just right. Dunno why but I didn't expect the sound to be as physical as previous gigs by them in that venue but it certainly was.
I was down towards the back and noticed quite a few walk outs. Some lady in my row lasted about 15 minutes before leaving, fingers in ears.
Anyone see the chap standing up arms aloft for a bit of the set?Seemed annoyed the person next to him wouldn't join him.
Careful not to mis-genre people!
I enjoyed it, think the nch is a nice setup. Saw your man standing alright he was near me. He didn't last too long after that.
It looked so cool at times with the smoke machines. And the last 10mins or so were really intense.
I thought the button factory was more intense though. Louder? Harder to see a thing that night where I was.
Yerman standing up was gas!
He kept looking down at whoever was next to him, as in encouraging them to get up and join him in the Nazi-esque salute
The sound they create is impressive
Bleak, dark, relentless, void, murky, hopeless, empty, black, stale mire
It was brilliant
I thought the smoke & lights could've been done better over the 1hr 40mins
More structure to it
Saying that, there were moments where it worked well
I would just have preferred nearly no lights, or low lighting for longer spells
Sometimes I find them a distraction tbh
There was a fella 2 seats from me who seemed to hunch forward with about 10 mins to go, cradling his head/back of his head/ears - almost like get this sh*t over with, I can't stand this anymore
Once they finished, he hopped to his feet mad clapping
They got great tones/frequencies at times
I would've loved a few more of the slow scrape of the plectrum along the top string :)
I assume they hit about 120dB last night?
Seeing them being a bit more 'primitive' as a duo was a pleasure to see
How they can create & control those sounds is unreal
BTW I must say I am quite proud of myself that I might have spotted 1 tune I knew (from Life Metal), and I have nearly all their stuff
PS I got some laugh when the buddy's whole body hopped when they suddenly came in proper loud. Ha Ha! It was his first time seeing them, and he was saying he knew they would come in loud, but fuck me, they came in with a bang.
It was a thing of beauty
I see O'Malley put up a picture of the two with Kevin Shields on Facebook. He must have been looking around the room thinking 'oh my sweet summer child' when it came to the volume.

Ha yes!Same happened to me when they hit that first chord
Enjoyed last night. First time seeing them without Attila. If I am honest I prefer them with some kind of vocalist then without as it does add to the show especially that thing Attila use to do in recent years when he would come out with the laser costume towards the end. Imagine how that would have looked in that venue last night.
First time in the NCH and it is an impressive venue. I probably won't ever be in there again unless it is for something like this. I thought the lights and smoke show was very good except for when one of the lights would shine directly into your eyes then stay in that position for the next few minutes.
It is mad to think that first time I saw them was 06 in Crawdaddy which didn't sell out and now last night they sold out a venue 4 times the size of that a few months before hand. As for the crowd Sunn O))) have always attracted that hipster type element who are curious / want to tell people they saw them live. You are guaranteed 30% of the crowd from last night won't be there next time they play and they will be replaced by a whole new group of people who want to see what all the fuss is about.
That gig in Crawdaddy was a treat. Justin Broadrick doing Final as support if I recall correctly.

Took your advice, and parked there
Very handy
Thank you sir
Last night was my first time to see them. Class gig. I nearly jumped out of my seat when that first chord was struck!!! I'm glad I had ear plugs but my ears were still ringing on the way home.
The NCH is a great venue, my first time there. Actual pint glasses and drinks that weren't at an extortionate price. Lots of handy parking around the venue too.
That was a real treat. I actually started laughing when they kicked in, from the sheer power of the sound. It sounded amazing, really detailed along with the volume so it wasn't just a big mushy mess.
Kind of felt intimidating, sorting of like you were watching infinity unfold, everything good and evil all at once. Wasn't really expecting that impact!
Only gripe is how tight the running of the whole thing was. Normally that's a great thing but everything felt pretty rushed to me. Formal concert setting so there was really no time to have a chat with any of the (many many) friends and heads I bumped into there, nor was there any time to really enjoy a drink because you couldn't bring it into the venue, after you'd made it through the queues (did not even bother looking at merch). Big queue for the jacks in a venue that size, why like? But anyway, that's a minor complaint from the evening, was great overall and the staff were fantastic.

Class!
That video was taken from where I was nearly seated
Did they go full volume in the soundcheck?
