Hell yeah :abbath:
Sweet
jesus h christ.....Athiest!
Oh, just seen what I did there
I wonder are modern Cryptopsy up to much live. The new album got a lot of hype on social media, but it was shite generic death metal to my ears. Would love to see them rip through BMF/NSV/WS stuff.

I saw them playing NSV in full a few years back and it was great. The stuff since the Unspoken King has been ok nothing special but not terrible either. No interest in Atheist myself but I will most likely head along to see Cryptopsy.

It says 'Blasphemy' in the tour name. Next year will be 30-the anniversary of Blasphemy Made Flesh, so we can expect at least a couple of songs from that album I guess.
Never copped the tour name, that's a good point.
Where was that show, Mick? Toronto?
Atheist special set celebrating Piece of Time, Unquestionable Presence and Elements? So all their albums except Jupiter then

Yeah it was the North American 20th Anniversary tour for the album then they played 5 or 6 other songs after the album. It would be great if this was a Blasphemy in full tour.
Looks like this is a co-headline tour and not just Cryptopsy supporting.
Cool, I've never seen Atheist. When was the last time they played here out of curiosity? Seen Cryptopsy a bunch of times. I'm not mad on their stuff post Lord Worm. Still cracking live though.
I think the last Atheist gig here was 2010. Last time I saw Cryptopsy was 2003, I think, possibly a year or two later, they played the Music Centre? There were worms for all. Can't say I'd be interested in going if Atheist weren't playing.
.
They played Temple Bar in the summer of 06 August I think that was the only time I saw them with Lord Worm. I think they also played in Dublin the year before on the Once Was Not tour it was one of those Saturday all day shows that had 8 or 9 bands similar to the gig with Pungent Stench and Grave that was an all dayer in Whelans back in 05.

they played the music centre with Grave,Versania,Dew scented and Aborted.Saw them in Cork with Gorerotted another time too, both in 06 i think.
Yeah that sounds right the Pungent Stench show just had a load of Irish bands on it now that I think of it. I am nearly sure Cryptopsy played in 05 and 06. I remember not going to the 05 show as I didn't know enough material then was delighted when they came back the next year as I had got really into them. I think the 06 show was August because I had just got back from Wacken when it was on.
I wish DME never got rid of that previous gigs section that use to be on the old Emerald Promotions site along with the photos from each show. With all the e-tickets only shows shite especially over the last decade it is very hard to even remember what bands you saw and where you saw them.
Edit: Yes you were right they played Dublin in Feb 06 which was the Grave show and looks like that was the first time they ever played in Ireland then again in August 2006 in An Cruiscin Lan and Dublin. Those were the only times Lord Worm played here. That was a rare thing even still today to have a biggish band like that play in Ireland twice in the one year.

I was so bloody drunk there I needed to stand at the wall for balance. Remember fuck all from the support bands and not sure if I even saw Aborted.
06 it was then, christ, time flies. It was with Gorerotted.
Didn't cryptopsy play here around 2018 2019 Supporting aborted, they played dolans in limerick on that tour.
Is it just a Dublin date?
Fuck sake.
The sound in Opium is fucking woeful

yep, I was at bith Cryptopsy shows in 05 and 06. Both cracking shows. Absolutely spoiled gig wise then. I agree on the whole e ticket shite too.
The Feb 06 got was wild, a random Tuesday and a 6 band bill or something like that. Aborted won me over big time that night. I didn't enjoy Cryptopsy much, too much OWN. I got my LC results the day of the August gig, ended up staying about town and skipping it. By all accounts it was a far superior show.
Truly insane to me that those gigs are 18 years ago. The gigs that were 18 years ago, I only read about, Deicide in the Top Hat and Anthrax getting gobbed on etc
Deadly lineup. Defo going to that.
Am I being an arse saying is this really Atheist? It's Schaefer plus hired guns (I'm assuming Flynn is still MIA after his accident years ago, and MA lists two current live drummers).
Thought Cryptopsy were going to be doing most of Blasphemy Made Flesh given the tour name, doesn't seem like it having checked out the setlist
I saw that but the setlist does include the majority of the songs from None So Vile.
yeah, just Blasphemy Made Flesh Medley... plus Back To The Worms from demo days plus 5 songs from None So Vile

Moved to Whelans
Not surprised, so much on.
Great news a much better venue. I don't think it's a sign of things slowing down just too much on in March. The thing in Point on Friday I reckon has had a major impact on the current run of shows this month.
Not going to able to make this now if anyone is looking for a cheap ticket, cost €39 on ticketbastard, selling for €25
How was it? Would love to have gone but the wallet is after taking a huge hit this month and still more to go with Emperor on Sat.
Arrived in time to catch the last four or five 72 Legions songs. Not my cup o' tae. Do you really need backing tracks to play Whelans? Atheist were fucking superb. It's just Kelly and some kids now, but the kids were note perfect, all of them. They nailed it, every little nuance. Tip o' the hat to fake Rand playing the V, he was particularly excellent. Loved every minute of it. The prospect of completing the long drive home by midnight was too appealing, so I only lasted a song and a half of Cryptopsy, couldn't stand them any more than that. Saw them years ago, never need to go through it again.
Also, down with fucking huge, shit backprints.
Atheist were pretty good alrite, thought the drummer was really impressive. As you said Burgm kids playing the tunes.
Cryptopsy I thought were excellent. Really enjoyed it but had to leg it for a train after about 50 mins.
Quick setup for Flo no messing. I would defo go to see Cryptopsy again.....I am a fan.
Atheist I could leave.
R
I was never into Atheist it is more of that Cynic / Later Death type style but better. I did enjoy them the last night. It was great to see someone like Kelly who has been at this for so long, even the tour itself has been going on for over 3 weeks and he was acting on stage like this was the first night full of enthusiasm. I liked a lot of what I heard and I will check out the new album when it is released.
Cryptopsy were great. It was sad to see a slightly smaller crowd for them then was there for Atheist but they did shoot themselves in the foot by not doing Blasphemy in full on this tour. The Blasphemy medley was good. I know they have a new album to promote but they only played 3 from that which they easily could have fitted into a Blasphemy set. Matt sounds brutal these days this is the best his voice has ever sounded with the band.
The heat inside last night at times was unbearable.
I went there mainly because of the Atheist. Very happy with their set. Kelly's charisma plus the other guys really knew how to play those songs. They said the new album should finally come out next year and they will come back to Europe for some tour. I really liked the sound, much better than what Opium has been doing lately. I agree, they could improve the ventilation, sometimes it was really hot in there. Cryptopsy were also good!
I was terrified your man from Almost Dead was going to pop out from behind me at some stage. Don't really know about all that rolling on the floor craic...
Atheist I was never too into on record, and if I was listening to them I'd be listening to Unquestionable Presence but they really blew the socks off me last night. Serious energy from them and they sounded class. Tight as fuck
I don't know how the lads from Cryptopsy do it, they sounded unreal. Couldn't imagine being able to do that day in, day out, for 3 weeks. Some going
But yeah, fuckin hell Whelan's is some sauna. Thought I was going to melt away by the end of the night. Had to go air myself out in the smoking area for a while afterwards
Much of a crowd at it?
Everyone I know that was going was there for Atheist, was a bit surprised to hear Cryptopsy as the last band
Gutted I couldn't make this, sounds like it was great gig. Hopefully they will make it back here whenever that new album is done
Had a ball at this. Both bands on top form, and especially enjoyed Piece of Time. That drummer is a savage.
Quote from: Pagan Saviour on March 20, 2024, 11:24:18 AMMuch of a crowd at it?
Whelans apparently in total holds 670 so going by that I'd say easily 500 or more were there. Usually when it's warm it means a decent turnout.
Whelans main venue holds 400 odd!
It's 450 on the main floor, 120 upstairs and 100 on the parlour which I am guessing is the area that the bar is located in.
It's 450 for the main venue total, including the bar and the balcony.
The 'upstairs' is referring to a separate venue through the back of the smoking area where they hold the silent disco and BIMM student gigs that kind of thing. The Blaze Bayley gig a few weeks ago was originally supposed to take place in that room but was moved to the main venue. The Parlour is another part of the bar you can rent out privately.
350-400 then I reckon last night. I miss the times when H use to post on the old forum about how may payers shows had and what the bands themselves thought about the shows.
Yep it's a pity, used to find all the numbers and attendances interesting
Yeah loved that myself. Used to be able to do similar on a site called Billboard Boxscore in the States. Fascinating place altogether, and it was always surprising to see how few numbers "bigger" bands would pull over there.

Is that down to since he's working with MCD or just too busy (because fucking hell he's lashing the shows out lately)
Dunno, but he has almost completely stopped posting here since that deal.

I don't think so because I can't ever remember him posting those details after a gig since this forum has been around. The stopping selling through Tickets.ie definitely seems to be down to the MCD deal as they stopped selling for his shows just before the announcement was made.
He definitely used to post here, even once or twice recently, Cynic thread?
He did a podcast last year which was kind of interesting, although think it is from before the MCD arrangement;

How was the gig ye fucking bean counters
