You got your headliners in Queens of the Stone age, Fall out Boy and Avenged Sevenfold.
And Pantera and machine head and other stuff.
Seen that go up earlier. Quite grim.
Guess it's inevitable. The classic headliners are getting older now and will soon be leaving us. They need to push the next generation although ive no idea who Fall Out Boy are.
Are they big with the kids?
Yeah they'd do the numbers alright. I can see the appeal with Fall Out for example but not with Avenged Sevenfold, a god awful band if ever there were one.
Had a quick look on YouTube. Listened to Century and Sugar we're going down. Didn't think much of either song.
Reminds me of those poppy 'punk' bands that in the naughties were on the soundtrack to films like American Pie etc
Good god what a terrible line up. Fall out boy any relation to Radioactive man?
Copping said they asked 24 bands to headline, and this is what they were left with!!
With pantera playing I'm guessing they won't do a UK tour, maybe Ireland tho
How are Pantera not a headline act it?
Yeah, saw earlier too, when I saw it first I was wondering if it was a different download....
Times they are a changing, or should that be times have changed?
QuoteGuess it's inevitable. The classic headliners are getting older now and will soon be leaving us
That's pretty much it. The festival will survive but not as we remember it. The headliners are so boring year to year anyway - it's either stuff like this that has no appeal or take your pick from Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slipknot, Etc Etc on rotation. It's amazing to see none of the bands being touted some years back have stepped up or made the leap.
It's sign of the times too, are we going to get a band that can shift the units that Metallica or Maiden did ever again? Just as an example people would've backed Mastodon to be up there in and around the time of The Hunter but they're nowhere near it. Ghost would be the only "Metal" act to emerge in the last decade that could possibly make the leap. Pretty grim.
Yeah, I agree with you about Ghost. I can see them making the jump to Headliner soon, surprised they haven't already.
I do think the days of metal bands the size of Metallica, Maiden, ACDC etc are long gone. Nowadays theres so much access to different bands and genres that the population is split.
It's like back in the 70s a Morcome and Wise christmas day special would get 30 million viewers...but that was back in the day of only 2 real tv channels, no video games, streaming or other things to do. You'll not get numbers like that for a Christmas show again.
Ah lads don't give up
I think Superskin can do it. Come on, ta fuck!
Imagine Dragons, Ghost and Muse will be fuming at this.
Not my cup of tea either, though I suppose it's technically a forward foot for a festival that's been maligned for years for not pushing acts up the card in favour of the dinosaurs. QOTSA, Fall out Boy and Avenged Sevenfold shouldn't be seen as a forward foot, I know. But it's the landscape. It's probably a net positive that they've realised they can fill Donington without an Iron Maiden or Metallica in one of the slots.
Ghost are definitely getting the bump next time. They headlined second stage this year and the place was overflowing.
Tis grim alright. Matches up with its soulless defunct name, probably should be Streaming festival this day and age!
They never pushed bands properly or catered much to European bands on a grand scale was always a big grasp for US radio rock, read somewhere the most requested band by the fans is Foo Fighters that's part of why they are where they are too.
The rock scene in the UK seems to be geared towards metalcore the last while, few goods ones of course but none gonna break a mould that I can see but most significantly a lot of dung that needs putting on at Download!
Obscene to be stacking this up in comparison to elsewhere on the continent, have ye seen the prices!?
No Antichrist Siege Machine.....!!!! or Nails!
Man I have zero interest in this. Pantera, first date in 20 years, could you take them to court for false advertising?
Biohazard, Fear Factory and Pantera would have been a great line up...... 30 years ago!
I'm sure it would be good craic!
R
 The 3 of them actually played Ozzfest '98 in the UK.
Quote from: KingHostile on November 22, 2023, 11:54:12 AMPantera, first date in 20 years, could you take them to court for false advertising?
I saw Pantera twice during the summer at indoor headline shows and I was blown away two of the best gigs I have ever attended. A lot of people that have seen them are surprised at how good they have been.
I wouldn't mind seeing Biohazard now that Evan is back. That show in Fibbers about 10 years ago was great.
The recent footage of Biohazard looks very encouraging. Really on top form.

Don't recall seeing Biohazard at that, Milton Keynes anyway. What a gig though!
Maybe I'm wrong about Biohazard.
Yeah I was there and don't remember Biohazard. Soulfly and Slayer were there.
Remember Pantera playing a bit of number of the beast.
Bad to worse, Busted and Wheatus added there. Busted, a frickin boy band.
Quote from: Pagan Saviour on January 29, 2024, 06:29:00 PMBad to worse, Busted and Wheatus added there. Busted, a frickin boy band.
I thought you were taking the piss...then checked the offical website and you werent.
oh dear
Yeah, I mean they've had some variable acts over the years that lie outside the genre but some of the names on that list totally change the scope of the festival and not in a good way.
Good God this is shocking stuff.
Busted, Wheatus, Escape the fate, fall out boy, sum 41, with this line up I might be able to convince my wife to get tickets for 2025 before the line up is announced :abbath:
That Saturday mainstage is atrocious.
Fallout Boy, Babymetal etc. Amazing to see Pantera are headlining a smaller stage on the same day.
I think we will probably see more of this in future as Reading and Leeds is no longer an alternative rock festival. I think headliners like Muse, Foo Fighters, Green Day and more stuff like Pendulum, Electric Callboy and Baby Metal will become the norm.
Monsters of Rock..RIP
As mentioned in the thread, it has been coming. The massive bands just aren't there any more, due most likely to streaming and access to so much. It's an awful line up though. I wonder if there's a place even for something a bit heavier in the big 3 day format like that. Would 200 tiny to mid size bands appeal to enough people if it was put together?
You dont need 200 small/mid sized bands for a good fest tbh.You just need a bit of variety, like a handful of bands you want to see is all you want at a massive fest imo.You spend most of your time drinking and talking shite,if there was dozens of bands you really wanted to see, your head would be melted running around the place.A mix of craic and a quality band every few hours would do me over the course of a weekend.
Bloodstock looks way better anyway
I see the Prodigy are playing Hellfest. They stick out awkwardly. I mean I like the Prodigy and all but are they a metal act??.
Think they played Download a couple of times.
Bottom line, not a metal act but could sort of see the appeal here and there.
Busted however is the one that's still blowing my mind.
Priody also headlined Sonisphere as well, they had Maiden and Metallica the other days.
They would argue Download isnt a 'metal' festival as such more 'alternative' whatever the hell that means.
On the download forums, the kids are quite happy with Busted https://forums.downloadfestival.co.uk/topic/16882-busted/#comment-817134

Reading was always a whatever way the wind blew at the given time, started as a Jazz gathering.
By no means bigging them up by any stretch but Electric Callboy or Babymetal are hardly leftfield choices for that festival.
Green Day and the like can headline stadiums and them in particular were obviously achievable striking they are at Isle of White whilst a recent support band of theirs in Fall Out lads takes top billing at Donington, perhaps they don't want their headliner elsewhere in the same tour run I suppose.
Bloodstock itself have veered towards maybe not exactly a Download lite I dunno maybe about 10 or so years ago Within Temptation headlined and a few snarky comments about them not belonging there on announcement despite them being a sort of big deal when they done one of the first ones granted musically they'd shifted since but in contrast Rob Zombie seemed to be more positive when was at Download every other year at the time.

Busted and Mr Bungle on the same bill. What a time to be alive.

I saw the Prodigy at Download in 2006 and it was the best time I have ever seen them. I only went to Download that once in 06 and even back then as a teenager it didn't feel like a metal festival. Wacken is the same hasn't been a proper metal festival for years the line-up is always full of shite.
Be great if someone could get Mr Bungle over here for a show if they are in England this summer.
Was at Download once in 2009 for the Faith No More reunion but the amount of spastics lighting tents on fire made the last day unbearable. Never again

How much of Mr.Bungle is the original lineup nowadays? (Besides Mike Patton and Trevor Dunn)

Trey Spruance as well. The man did the guitar on their later stuff, Faith No More 'King for a day' and this class Secret Chiefs 3 tune
Was asking because they have Scott Ian now ?!

It might be too tall an order to replicate the three Bungle albums everyone loves, so they chose to add a couple of goats to do their old shit instead
They still do random covers though

They played in Dublin in 2009 as well in the Olympia. I had a ticket then when my repeat exams for college were announced I had one at 9am the morning after the FNM show which was my hardest subject so I had to sell the ticket.
Also had a ticket to see FNM in September of 2020 and that obviously didn't go ahead either. Another band that is long overdue an Irish show. The Olympia show sold out in minutes and if Anthrax can play the 3 arena then no reason why FNM wouldn't be able to get a half decent crowd for it.

Dublin was a great gig as well yeah, but announced months after the Download set so it didn't hit as hard for me. Brutal that we never got to witness that Sunstroke lineup thanks to poxy covid but I have no doubt they could fill 3 arena now.

That same '09 tour a load of us went to Berlin to see them in Wuhlheide park before the Irish date got announced. Class gig, class venue. Roasting hot day, rake of drink. Zu and Farmers Market opened up for them and were both lethal too. They played pretty much the Download 09 setlist for it but finished with Pristina too. Seen them again in the PNE Vancouver 2015 and it was every bit as lethal with the addition of three new album tracks at the time, but I don't remember the supports for them.

Sounds like a great experience! Fair fucks. Have seen Zu and Farmers Market on my travels as well and both were memorable to say the least
As regards FNM, have only seen them live once, touring 'King For A Day' back in 95, Italy. Their guitarist wasn't Trey Spruance, it was their guitar technician.
Jon something?
Think it was Dean Menta for that tour Jon Hudson joined for Album of the year.
More shite added to download.... Why is most of this crap themed or gimmick based? Is it something to do with modern attention spans?

Scarily safe. Pristine videos, best of equipment. Where's the dingy shed and stacks of amps?

Guaranteed they build the lineups via Spotify & Tik Tok spreadsheets.
Busted? BUSTED? That's not metal for fuck sake. Bring back the proper Download that had Feeder, Muse and HIM high up the bill.
I was at Download in 2005 and the Friday headliner was Feeder. It's not been the way you want it for a long time. Just swaying with what is popular, as always.

Next years lineup looks worse somehow?
Behemoth have turned into one of the most god awful bands ever. I'd file them alongside Babymetal or any other band who's "Live Set" revolves around costume changes and miming.
The major fests book off the Spotify algorithm so it's no surprise really, plus the 18-25 demographic is the main target audience followed by the 35-40.
We bought tickets in the early bird for this but will probably sell them on, haven't decided yet. I count about 8 bands I want to see, not really interested in the headliners although I'd watch GnR if we went.
A 5 day camping ticket is now £365.
Only positive is there is a tiny chance Mastodon play here around that time?

Reckon there'll be a fly in or two.
Actually burst out laughing when I spotted Blood Incantation in the middle of all the rest of that
Haven't even heard the name of a good 80% of those
There's a handful of bands I'd go see, hopefully they do a bit of touring around it
Is Dogstar Keanu Reeves' band?
The very one........
Quote from: Kunt 4 Life on November 05, 2025, 12:52:29 PMIs Dogstar Keanu Reeves' band?
I'd let him headline over Fred Durst if he plays some wild stallions material from Bill and Ted.
