More gigs, missed these last time so will hit this one 100%
"The legendary Godflesh will come to Dublin & Limerick in May 2024. See them at The Academy on Sat. 11th & Dolan's Warehouse on the 12th. Tickets on sale Thursday 11am"
Fair fair chuffed, going to the Limerick show for definite. Incredibly good live, they were class last year too.
The Irish shows last November were great.
Indeed. The Academy should be a better venue for them though.
Great news, caught em' last time and they didn't disappoint.
Savage!!Had to miss them last minute last time, this will make up for it
I'll be all over this like a rash. Be grand to catch em in dolans but the academy would be class for em as well
Good stuff.
Yet again, no Cork gig. Mother of Christ, these trips to Dublin are grating on me. Couple of hundred bucks to go see a €30 show.
Last bus out of Limerick to Cork is at 1930hrs or something. A pure balls.
Is it Opium or The Academy? MCD's listing mentions both venues.

You'd think we were a modern functioning country there Stout with your ludicrous expectations of a transport service that may be vaguely fit for purpose

It's the Academy for Dublin.
I had thought there was a slightly later option for Cork transit from here but it's been a while since I looked. I know it's dogshit in the other direction anyway because I have attempted to go to gigs in Cork and back the same night only to have found trains/buses end at 9.00pm on a Saturday.
HOWEVER There will likely be lads driving up and back for this, I know it's a good bit out but there's definitely options.

I don't think that there's a later option. I wanted to go to that Protomartyr show in Limerick this coming Friday but there's nothing after 2030hrs .
A few of us were only chatting on Whatsapp about their Cork gig years back.A scuffle outside Nancys after the gig the main talking point!

Utterly dense. If they had a 1am service from either city in either direction, they would fill it every weekend without fail.
In Galway you at least have the 1AM Citylink bus to Dublin, so that'll get me home but you're still hanging around for the guts of a couple of hours after most gigs end, bar the odd smaller pub gig. Risky business in Galway these days.
During the week there's a 10:15 train but that's no good for gigs. The bus service is a joke, Bus Éireann don't even have a Dublin to Galway route anymore.

Don't get me started on the bus's here. In order to get from Kilenny to limerick the bus goes in the opposite direction to the red cow. Then you wait for another bus that brings you to Limerick. 3 hour journey is all it is. Actually unbelievable
Auch a pile of shit. Ryan and his ilk increase carbon tax and fuel duty in order to force people out of cars, yet won't provide any alternative (going in the opposite direction in terms of ending the Dublin-Galway bus routes), so you're forced to drive and fill their coffers as a result.
Turning back toward the actual topic, the above is why I'm not going to this. Can't get home after either gig, so would be forced to stay over and it's the price of accomodation that's the killer.
Book in in Ennis, I'll drop you there after thr gig I'm sure it's cheaper

Looks like there has to be an actual message. Luckily, I read through anyway.
Unfortunately my secret is an ultra cheap rental in some lad's apartment. That or getting a lift back depending on the occasion.

If only I'd read this in time, there was a bus rented for Cork crew! Didn't make it up myself though.

Yes, it's brilliant. Can't wait to catch em again and hopefully they play one or two off it
Ticket in the bag, elated. A night on the Godflesh beckons
Many round here going to the limerick gig? I hope it isn't just me...
No you won't be alone, I'm going
I'll be at the Limerick show yup.
Got tickets yesterday for myself and the daughter. Excited now.
Not too far off now, looking forward to this.
Though support might be tough going - Samuel Kerridge. Industrial, Noise type stuff. I have his fallen empire album and it's really the type of thing you have to be in the mood for to throw it on. I don't think it's suited to a live setting at all but could be proven wrong.
I hope there is Godflesh merch at this show. There was none at the last gig if ye remember? Wouldn't say no to a Hymns shirt now

I love noise, industrial, dark ambient etc. Rarely has it worked live for me bar Ben Frost

Plastichead have them if not, and they're sanctioned by the band unlike Earache's merch.
QuoteI hope there is Godflesh merch at this show
I've been disappointed with the merch at most of the shows I've gone to over the past couple of years. You'd think bands would be well stocked.

That for both gigs?
Yep both gigs. I do think the stuff is worth a punt if you like that kind of thing and I am going in to check it out just reckon it'll test the patience of most.
Ah, they're UK though. Would get stung with an import charge no doubt. Feck that ha ha

Yeah I may give it a go even though I've a terrible track record for making it in to watch the support. Might be fun watching it drive lads mad as well if nothing else
Reminds me of the Patton/Fennesz gig in the village years back. Place was packed with arseholes expecting to hear Faith No More
I know a lad that went to that and he should have known well what to expect and he still came out cribbing because Patton wasn't singing any songs
I saw that Patton/Fennesz show in Amsterdam. Flew home the day of the Dublin show and Mike Patton was on my flight back to Dublin.
Did you say hello to him?
I got a photo with him in the baggage hall.
I met him in a medical bookstore in Dublin in 92.
Looking forward to this now. I will actually be sober as well instead of the usual whirlwind of drugs, which will be something different at least. Haven't looked at any setlists, but even if it was the exact same as last time I'd still be delighted

I'll be in Limerick the day before the Dolan's gig for a match. I was tempted to stay for a couple of nights and catch them there but the price of hotels would cross your eyes.
What kind of stage times will we be looking at for Limerick? Trying to convince a buddy to go but he's wary of the bus times
Times for Dublin - per Academy Twitter
Doors - 7pm
Samuel Kerridge - 7.45pm
Godflesh - 8.45pm
Just noticed that these seem to be the first Godflesh shows since Halloween. Looking forward to it the shows in 2022 were great.
Great gig. I'd say better than the last gigs and Justin is back to a shaved head again. Crazy to think he's in his mid 50's
Who was the dedication to? Couldn't make it out.
Quote from: jpm4 on May 11, 2024, 11:47:49 PMWho was the dedication to? Couldn't make it out.
Steve Albini & Geordie Walker
What was the crowd like in the academy did it get anywhere near full?
How long was their set?
About an hour and ten or thereabouts.
They were cut off as they slightly overran I think, there was a stage hand giving JB the "cut" sign just during the encore. They started a little later than planned but I don't think they went over by much, maybe one or two songs
Great set. Quite enjoyed Kerridge too though I'd enjoy him more on headphones than live again I'd say.
Crowdwise downstairs was full, didn't open the balcony. It was the most amount of bald men in black tshirts I've ever seen in one place.
I
Looking forward to tonight now hope they're good and loud in the warehouse
Edit: that's a decent looking setlist ye got in Dublin. Fair hope they play Slateman in limerick

Enjoyed him. Musically similar to that but he was on electronics rather than djing.had a bassist join him and did a song or two where he did vocals (one ended with the genius line "your energy boils my piss" if that rings any bells)
That doesn't ring a bell. Haven't really listened to him in a few years either though.
Streetcleaner up on yt
Craic was 90. Post self and christbait were my personal highlights. Sound was impeccable
Good night in Limerick. Samuel Kerridge was quite good. I wouldn't know much about this kind of music....
Godflesh were immense, great visual backdrop and the music was crushing and intense.
A few tracks from Streetcleaner were aired so I was in my element.
Well I was fucking elated with that. There really is nothing like the bit of Godflesh. Cracking set, great sound. Thought the support was well decent as well
Just me being a total fuckin fanboy and giving the two lads some pedals at the gig there. Some night, some craic, some setlist. Sound in Dolan's was savage for it.
