Normally I would have no interest since for me the band ended back in 2007 with the crash. Checked out a few post Covan songs here and there throughout the years which were always terrible. I love the first four albums with Nihility being my favourite.
Who has seen them since the reformation and is the current singer any good? Would someone not into the newer stuff enjoy this or would it feel more like the tribute band you see down in the local pub on a Friday night?
QuotePoland's Decapitated will return to Irish shores in December to celebrate their classic 'Nihility' album. Special guests Obscura plus Inferi & The Materia. Tickets on sale now from Ticketmaster, venue websites & usual outlets.
Guitarist Vogg stated,
"Boom! I know that "Nihility" has a special place for many fans and musicians following Decapitated for the last 20 years. For me as well. That's why we decided to celebrate this album and perform the whole thing live in concert for the first time! Join us in spheres of madness!"
December 2023
6th Dolan's Warehouse Limerick
7th Opium Live Dublin
8th Limelight Belfast
Yeah, I've seen them post-crash. I was at the show in Opium last year. For me it's not the band they were having seen them as nippers supporting Vader back in the day when Nihility just came out. I still really enjoyed the gig though, all great musicians but there's something slightly sterile about it. When it's not material you wrote it's always different right?
Yep have had no interest with years, love the first two albums. That gig with Vader and Krisiun was unreal, one of my favourite gigs.Obscura would spike more interst now tbh, great live band.
Obscura and Inferi are the big draws for me
Other than a few songs I haven't really liked anything Decapitated have done since Organic Hallucinosis. But I've never seen them and Nihility is an all time classic so it should be some craic
Totally missed the bit about Obscura playing, interest piqued now.
But yeah, Decapitated went a bit Bro-Dude after the crash. Even some of the song titles are so dumb especially in comparison to the concepts explored on both Nihility and Organic. I think it's fitting that Vogg tours with Machine Head now, totally understandable - I'm sure the revenue and exposure is welcome and totally deserved but it's not a million miles away from where Decapitated are musically these days.
I wonder will they play Suffer the children!,they do a good cover of that!
Found this photo from the Nihility tour from 2002 in The Shelter Dublin!.
If it was just decapitated on their own I probably wouldn't be as interested, echo some of the statements made here about their output since Organic, their new albums aren't even bad just not as interesting.
However it's a good package of bands so will be a good night.
Not long to go now, looking forward to this big time.
Ordered the Nihility vinyl repress and it arrived last week will be blasting it over the next few days. Not familiar with Obscura but everyone seems to be raving about them the little bit I have heard sounds like later Gorguts.
Christ I forgot about this again. Must see can I swing down to the Limerick night of it. Always great live.

Wouldn't have pegged them in with recent Gorguts, bit more techy death metal and not as much dissonance, been a while though since I've given Gorguts a spin
If you do fancy checking them out I'd reckon Omnivium and Diluvium are their two best. I find all their stuff pretty enjoyable though, although the latest was a bit disappointing
I have a ticket for the Limerick gig to sell, €25. I can't make the gig. Pm if interested.
Looking for a Dublin ticket if there's any going, I was sure I booked one months ago but apparently I didn't and its sold out now

give the soundcellar a ring?
Or you could try to DM on Twitter, maybe there will be a couple on the door: https://twitter.com/dmepromotions
A lot of bands to fit in tonight! First band on at 7.10pm in Dolans, no idea of the materia though as I haven't checked them out yet.
Ticket gone

Going to have a listen to them today. I downloaded all of the albums a few weeks ago but never got around to listening to anything.
deleted.
A few beers in now and starting to get excited. I can't wait to hear songs like Eternity too short and Babylons pride live. Last time I saw Decapitated was when they played here with Covan which has to of been 2006 and my guess is tonight will most likely be the last time I see them live unless then do Winds, Organic or negation in full at some stage in the future.
Anyone remember when they use to play Spheres twice at those old gigs in the Voodoo lounge they would play it as the 3rd or 4th song then end the show with it.
Yeah I remember spheres twice the last time I seen them in voodoo. Doesn't feel that long ago though!
Yeah it's crazy 17 years.
Only caught the end of the first band but sounded a bit too chuggy for my tastes. Inferi and Obscura were class, mentioned at the end that they'll be back in March so I'm guessing (hoping) that's the tour with Cynic coming here
Decapitated were brilliant, no in-between song banter, just ploughing straight through Nihilty and topping it off with some Organic Hallucinosis. Only problem was when they went on to their newer stuff after you could really hear the gulf in quality between their two periods
Had a blast at this, echo above comments - Inferi and Obscura were great, Decapitated excellent. Had to laugh at what looked like the smallest security guard in existence who looked no older than 25 trying to 'restore order' to the moshing and mainly the crowdsurfing, he was utterly doomed from the beginning.
Got oddly distracted by a chap beside me who got into a strange trance just gliding his fingers through his freshly washed long hair, flinging it back behind his shoulders repeatedly for about 3 minutes during Nihility, a truly metal L'Oreal moment. Also shout out to everyone involved who nearly sent one of the crowdsurfers into the sound guy in the middle
I enjoyed last night but I couldn't help thinking they could have gone the extra mile for this and got Sauron back even just for the Nihility part of the set. That is not a knock on the dreadlocked lad as he seems like a decent frontman but just something about Saurons vocals that suited those songs so well. Sauron still seems to be in metal bands and from what I remember he left the band on good terms so it is a shame they couldn't of done it that way. Unfortunately I am not old enough to have ever been able to see them with Sauron. While Covan was great Sauron for me was always the best.
I was never the biggest Spheres fan but the change they did in the middle of that song was pretty annoying just play it the way it is on the album. I don't know maybe this is a thing they have been doing for years when they play it live because all of the other Nihility songs had no changes.
In saying all that if they toured this album again in the future or any of the first four I would definitely go based on last night.
Obscura didn't do much for me far more melodic then I initially thought. I left after the first post Vitek song (3 or 4 songs after they finished Nihility) they played as it nearly makes me sad to see what a band I almost worshipped as teenager has turned into.
Would Decapitated usually sell out shows or pack venues when they play here or did last night sell out due it being the Nihility set?
Same as above re Decapitated at the Limerick show. Album was deadly but the quality really dropped when they played the newer stuff.
Obscura were deadly though especially The Anticosmic Overload and Ocean Gateways. Last time I saw them was at that Death to All tour and the sound wasn't great for them so this made up for it.
Those lights in Dolans that shine straight into the crowd can fuck right off though, they are blinding!
I never made it to Limerick in the end (I actually managed to find the original Nihility tour shirt from their gig back then too),was a huge fan of the first two albums. It always amazes me how popular they have become, their material does absolutely nothing for me with donkeys years.
