Not my show to promote but I spotted it earlier today.
It's a BYOB in St. Peter's Church (The Vision Centre). August 26th.
50/50 on going to this or another gig in town the same night. Should be a cracker all the same - last one in there sold out.

Ticket bought there now. I'n looking forward to seeing a gig here as I was away the last time.
I must dig out a cooler bag for the cans :) These BYOB gigs can be dodgy in that regard, e.g. Cork Print Shop a few years ago and the Caz Club yonks ago.
Yeah shame Burner is on the same night in Fredz, similar clientele I'd imagine. Assuming that's the gig you're referring to anyway!
Burner is the Friday
Sound. I'm really after getting mixed up "checking" dates tonight! :P I think I bought the right ticket for this at least ::)
Grabbed a ticket there too. Invictus have their showcase on the same night in Dublin but circumstances have me back down home so this will do nicely.

Senior moment :P

Nope, I wasn't even aware of that Burner show to be honest.
The other gig in Cork that night (and the one that I'll more than likely end up at) is Emperor Of Ice Cream in Cyprus Avenue.

Those print shop gigs were fucking class. Have a toot upstairs and into the gig. Whoever reported that building to the fire authorities is a cunt of the highest order.
Grabbed a ticket for this anyway. Should be good.
My first time in the venue, pretty cool, put a stage and proper lighting in there and it has serious potential. But the sound gets lost in the place!.Missed Everdead wood, somehow they were on early on the bill.ZC as usual killed it,like i said the sound gets lost in the place unfortunately.
Great craic all round in the outdoor area,it really is a nice set up.
Now to the interesting stuff!,ive been going to gigs a long time, but ive never see such a collection of knuckle draggers!.It was surreal, like a scene from planet of the apes!
How no one ended up crashing into the bands or sound desk is a miracle!
Only reason no one crashed into the sound desk is that people protected it!
Twas a surreal gig to say the least. I went to it late with the intention of avoiding Chrononaut, but unfortunately the poster was misleading and Everdead Wood had gone on first. Chrononaut should be nowhere near a metal gig, not to mind one billed as a night of death. I'm not an elitist and love all styles, but their music is beyond painful to my ears.
Gravepath were cringeworthy as well.
A gig that was labelled as Oíche an Bháis was seriously misleading. It was basically €20 to see ZC, and I'm ok with that, but selling the bill under that heading is stretching things.
Anyway new ZC tracks rocked, and they delivered as usual. But to see the knuckle draggers do rock the boat and a circle pit between songs with no regard for the music was mystifying. It was like they saw a youtube video of what a gig could be and carried on with no regard as to whether music was actually playing or not.
It was great to see young people out for it, but my abiding memory is like a real life scene from We Care Bears The_Three_Bears.png
Regardless, ZC rocked and Fredz was good craic afterwards between the metal DJ and Metalmania. It was great to catch up with so many people, and also meet an Italian metal journalist.
Essentially we were spoilt for the past 3 nights, so thanks a million for putting this on, but a plague on some people's houses!
Lesson learnt is that old people should act their age and stay out of the pit!! Yer man in the Deicide shirt is fit to be put down after joining the pit!
What the lads have just said...
Strange gig overall.
Were none of the younglings in the pit or was it drunk older people?
I have long since retired from pits. It would take a Rocky 4 training montage to get me back in and then only for Terror.
I'm sorry I missed it. Work had other ideas.
Young crowd,Id say some of them had to be coked out of it! .It was BYOB but i didnt see any of them actually boozing!.Look its all a bit of craic but fuck me it went up levels last night compared to normal! .
The Amon Amarth style sitting on the ground rowing finished me off!
I was genuinely perplexed by that. Is it Amon Amarth where they got that shite?
Stamping in a big circle between songs as well. Basically just trying to keep some momentum going, I suppose!
That stupid aul' fella that busted himself in the pit... How the fuck did he think he could match that level of horseshit. 🐴💩
He either broke his leg or dislocated the knee or hip. Took two to carry him out.
Can't see the venue letting many, if any, more metal gigs in there again after that.
Venue had it's own security at it last night, too. There wasn't at the Black Metal night and that went off much smoother than last night with probably two to three times the crowd.
Did the old dude take the hopper during ZC?,i missed it somehow!.
Im still laughing at the whole thing!,id say video footage from the balcony would make epic viewing!
Quote from: Paul keohane on August 27, 2023, 11:17:09 AMDid the old dude take the hopper during ZC?,i missed it somehow!.
Nah! He didn't even make it through Chronic-Naut
Ah ok,i was outside so.Hopefully it wont have a bearing on future gigs. Lets hope security report back that it was a smooth night!
Fuck, I wish I was able to go see this now. :abbath:
I'm fuckin skittin at these comments tbh. And I echo yer thoughts. Good few characters in the mix aryt 😅 We were actually misled because of the poster too! But I think the tattoo artist who designed it never considered logo placement in relation to running order, idsay they just thought it looked better that way. So a bit disappointed on that cuz we thought we were on later too but it's grand. Live and learn.
Deicide shirt was the man of the match for me 🤣 I was doing the merch stand during Chrononaut and saw him across the room with his buddies and he struck me as a fella who was let out for the first time in years, it was nice to see cuz he seemed harmless until he started acting the clown. If I'm not mistaken it was Gravepath he met his demise. He came in like a bull showing the teeny boppers how its done in the pit and gave one or two of em whiplash and then circled round giving the 'bring it on' gesture and about 0.7 seconds later after misjudging a shove which hit fresh air, he slapped the concrete. Broke his leg I heard. Felt so sorry for him but it was sheer stupidity.
Overall it was a good night, the sound was marginally better than the last time around and the catch ups were great as usual. Zealot Cult ferocious, enjoyed them.

🤣🤣🤣
Breaking your leg at a local gig at his age! Fuck me!.What do you even tell your family, work etc? .Youd have to make up some bullshit excuse!.
Another lad, small Joey Jordinson build,he got slammed into the concrete floor at one point!,like a rag doll!.
Another fella in full corpse paint in the pit, along with a Thomas Shelby looking dude!
What a night!
I feel I have missed something on par with Lowend fest now

Thanks for reminding me that metal brotherhood is a thing, after all. :)

Hopefully it was just the exuberance of youth - happy days! Sure look it, tis better to have them creating a buzz rather than waiting on us old whingers to create an atmosphere. (by the way, it's great seeing 18 year olds buying Impaled Nazarene and the like in Bunker Records these days as well).
Also, them having no drink helped keep the floor dry and avoid slips into equipment thankfully. Or give this lad an excuse to sue...

Broke his leg I heard. Felt so sorry for him but it was sheer stupidity. What is it with people doing that "bring it on" nonsense, and lashing kids out of it? Practically instant karma then, but a step too far as I wouldn't wish that level of injury on anyone.
It would be funny trying to explain it afterwards though - "yeah I was beating up on some kids and the pesky rascals were too fast for my old bones, so I ended up connecting with air and concrete"!
I can't see this going any further as he's completely at fault for causing his own injury. The judge would have more of a laugh than us throwing this out of court!!
"Hold on, hold on, read that back to me please clerk"
"Ok your Honour, ok here we go... there was a panda enthusiast, a Peaky Blinders fan, 4 air-rowing athletes sitting in front of the stage, a slave master lashing them with an imaginary whip, a circle of galloping kids running around them riding imaginary horses, a more mature gentleman clutching at shadows and...(picture judge falling off chair choking with laughter) eh your Honour, are you ok?"
Cue defence solicitor piping up with "Case withdrawn your Honour!"

You're more than welcome Francesco! You have a gig to remember anyway that's for sure!!
By the way, major thanks to the folks on the cloak room last night. They must have been demented from people coming back to get their next drinks all the time but they were a pleasure to deal with.
People did a great job of looking after the place and ensuring the place was kept tidy with the bins regulatly emptied.
Great organisation, fair play to all concerned. You just can't legislate for people going out of their way to harm themselves so don't let it get ye down.
As Paul said above, hopefully security give a good report back!
(I also hope the non-metal mom of one of my Beaver Scouts doesn't give a report back after witnessing me fist pumping and singing along to Metalmania's cover of Peace Sells in Fredz where she was simply meeting Dublin friends related to the band  )
ZC had to cut two songs off their set, which was a bit of a shit dose.
A couple of the support bands should have played shorter sets. Especially Chrononaut. Second band on the bill and they seemed to go for ages!
Absolutely!ZC set was way to short.
Sounds like a wild adventure. That poor eejit breaking his leg... How embarrassing
Some of those youngsters have to be tripping for sure
Looks like they had a great time anyway!
Trippin' Spaceballs.
Like someone said previously... Barely a drop of booze was drank between 'em all.
The doc said it was a clean break. He reckons that I'll be back on my feet and pathetically trying to start another pit in no time.
Another tale for 'The Fear' thread :abbath:
No. Even I'm not that much of a fucking gowl.
I was across town at a different gig.
Sober.
Unfortunately.
Thoroughly enjoyed the night, a great catch up.
However, as mentioned, the venue is not suited to a metal gig. The sound bounced everywhere, like playing in a cave.
Whatever about the fella who bull raged in and done himself a mischief - bit overzealous no doubt - but the rest of them seemed to just be kids enjoying their local scene. They'll be the ones forming bands and pumping whatever money there is into this thing over the next few years. Though I'll say the We Care Bears image is spot on!
Agree on the band placements too. No shade to the two in the middle but it was bookended by far superior quality that seemed more on theme with what I imagined the night was supposed to be so it definitely felt oddly curated considering it wasn't the cheapest. But hey, interesting venue. Didn't find the sound too bad.
Everdead Wood are great. Listened to their EP before going and they've really come on strong since the first gig they played in Freds, where it seemed very much like a work in progress.
Ya I found the young ones grand. Like that everdeadwood and zealot were well good.
The venue is not built for sound. Concrete walls with a huge ceiling leading to sound bouncing everywhere. Aaron on sound did a stellar job with what he had to work with.
If they did something like hang big heavy curtains around the walls it would help the sound may be.
Ah no in fairness the comments about the kids being knuckle draggers was OTT. Besides the rowing they were no bother, and like I said it was great to see them there.
If I was their age and bought a gig ticket for that price I certainly wouldn't have money to waste on alcohol anyway. Fair play to them for making the most of it. It's not like the rest of us were the coolest kids ever :D
By the way, I just spotted my post wasn't the clearest re €20 to see ZC - it wasn't meant to disrespect Everdead Wood - it's just that I regretfully missed them! :'(
Anyway, roll on Urban Assault :abbath:
My planet of the apes comment was ott so I apologise. It was more a mix of My left foot and the Goonies!
