I haven't seen any thread on the NFL here since 2021. Any other fans here?
Been a Jets fan for years.
The off season is shaping up to be eventful this year for the Jets in the search for a quarterback. Hopefully' it won't all fall apart (as often happens for the Jets).
There's a few of us about.
Mower Liberation Front is a NY Jets fan.
I'm a Chicago Bears fan.
There's probably someone on this board who supports a team that might actually win something too...

There's a serious rebuild on the cards for the Bears alright. Fields is a decent quarterback but he's been thrown in the deep end.
Long time New York Giants fan. Actually really enjoy watching college football. Follow no team in that.

An interesting deal between the Giants and Daniel Jones yesterday. He's a decent quarterback but that's serious money!
It got popular in Ireland in the early 1990s, believe there were Irish teams at the time. And a league.

Yeah there was a highlights show on RTE back then. Miles Dungan presented it.
There's still an Irish league. Their season kicked off last weekend I think.

I remember that NFL show well. They had NBA highlights back then too. Was mad on the Chicago Bulls back then with Jordan, Scotty and Rodman.

Yeah I think we dropped the ball in a big way by not signing Carr. Who knows what goes on in Rodger's head and he could hold everyone to ransom and then decide to retire.

Yep - college ball is great. I should have thrown this into the
Simple Pleasures thread long ago but any time that I go to the US, no matter what city - I'll go to an NCAA game if there's one on. I don't keep up with college stats so it's great to just be there and not have a dog in the fight. It's also a great conversation starter - you can just ask any of the die-hards and they'll give you a colour commentary.
I ended up at a high school varsity game once in Iowa where one of the teams was playing Iron Man football. Blood and guts stuff.

"Here's my shopping list. Sign my drinking buddies, OBJ, and I might think about it."
You know what fuck this. Move on. Talk to Baltimore about Lamar.
No two ways about it, he's an absolute embarrassment. Would be nice to keep up the pipeline of Packers QBs moving to the Jets after three or four years of open retirement speculation. Look forward to seeing Jordan Love in New York come 2032.

His arrogance has really fucking peaked! Unfortunately, he knows that Johnson wants him and I'd say Rodgers can make almost any demand and the Jets will pander to it. I think Lazard is a good signing. Anything else on that list is completely unnecessary given the players the Jets have. He can fuck right off with Beckham Jr!
It's shaping up to be yet another Woody Johnson disasterclass. He hires guys to build the team and coaching staff then constantly overrules them because he wants "his guy". Happening with Rodgers, happened with Tebow, and worst of all did the same with Herm fucking Edwards. That Jets team of the early-mid 2000s, with anyone other than Herm coaching, they go to at least one Super Bowl.
The whole Rodger's situation has become a bit of a soap opera. If the trade doesn't work out, the Packers are going to have a seriously shit situation to sort out.
Speaking as a Bears fan - I hope that the Jets give Rodgers what he wants!
I noticed on Fox Sports' "Speak" last night that Woody Johnson says that he is anxious about the Rodgers deal.
Given the state of the Jets - I'm not sure that Woody has ever been anxious about the organisation in his life!
Also - could someone watch the episode of "Speak" from last night (March 30th) and tell me what THE FUCK Emmanuel Acho is trying to say in regards to the Rodgers situation please?
I got a headache listening to him try to do some if-but-so-then-why-that-becuase Einstein theorem shit with his thoughts on the deal.
Fuck Woody Johnson. That deal has his cretinous fingerprints all over it. Jets got fleeced.
A crazy deal for what is probably gonna be a single season quarterback! I'm worried that the Jets have created a huge problem further down the road.
Six prime time games. Clearly a deal done between Goodell and Woody to get the Rodgers deal done quick enough so the NFL schedule makers could alter things. No way in hell the Jets without Rodgers would have even got half those games. Looks like Chiefs and Eagles games for me this year - last time I was at a Jets-Chiefs game, we had an elderly ex-Packer as QB that day, too.
I think it was just one prime time game last season. Tough schedule for the Jets. First six games will be a big test.

Titans won the schedule release video battle, I think.
Off topic but sorta American related. Youtube suggested the world Championship ice hockey been played at the moment.
I don't know much about it but enjoying watching the Germans versus the Finns

Any talk of a perfect season for the Chiefs already silenced!
It's Vinny in 1999 all over again. With Zach Wilson playing the part of Rick Mirer. :(

Sickening!
The level of shock amongst US pundits regarding Aaron Rodgers' injury is quite something. You'd swear that he died. The man is nearly 40 years old - something gonna break.
For a more balanced view of it and the Jets game;

The fuckin' Bears did me no favours again.
Read somewhere that if the Jets had scored the league average of 23 points over their last 18 games, they would be 15-3.
And Saleh has just said Wilson is the unquestioned QB for the rest of the season. And how it wasn't his fault they lost.
One bright thing though, I suppose. I'm heading to the game on Sunday, and have been watching ticket prices all summer, they hadn't gone below $185 since they were released. Then after the Rodgers injury, they began to drop, and have kept dropping. Now under $80 today. And another few days to go yet.
And poor Denver.
Quote from: Mower Liberation Front on September 25, 2023, 09:31:35 PMNow under $80 today. And another few days to go yet.
Fucking hell, talk about counting chickens before they hatched. Wednesday night they'd dropped to under $70. Thursday morning rocketed to $120. All because of that Swift fucker.
Still, the weather is going to be nice for tonight. There's that, I suppose.
What a fucking night. MetLife was fucking mental tonight.

Just watched the highlights package. 4 Eagles turnovers!
The Tony Adams interception and drive was class, Johnson gave Hurts an awful time by the look of it.

Unreal result! Were you at the game?
Another great defensive performance but still big problems on offence especially in the red zone. Still a great result and 3-3 is very healthy considering the opposition in the first six games.

Yeah. Crazy night, almost everyone stayed to the end, never seen such a long queue for the train after. Great atmosphere, but again the refs did their best to fuck us over. Eagles went for it on fourth and goal didn't get it. We're all celebrating, Eagles send the D out, not even bothering to challenge. TV timeout for change of possession ends, refs come out and say after review it was a TD. Even the Eagles fans were "Whaaa?"
Then on the free play later on, an absolute bullshit call on Lazard for a block, killed the drive. I think once Saleh called out the refs for fucking us over against the Chiefs, they're going to screw us every chance they get now.
Defense, missing so many players were fucking immense. Problem was the offense, two turnovers led to three and outs, and Zach, while competent moving the team downfield, was horrible in the red zone. I know a lot of the medica were critical of Breece scoring on the first and goal instead of taking a knee (especially after Mahomes killed us off doing that), but the way that defense was playing, I'd have gone for a 6 point lead with 1:46 left, rather than a 1 point lead with a minute.
Good to end the Eagles hoodoo and 3-3 at the bye? I think most Jets fans would have been happy with that, even if Rodgers had stayed healthy. And craziest thing of the day for me? Woody himself came over to our tailgate and hangout for a bit.
That Jets-Giants game was one of the ugliest games I've ever watched but it's the result that counts.
Now for some eye candy football: Bengals-49ers.

The Jets have set the standard for post-bye week ineptness over the last decade, but today was just embarrassing for pretty much the first 59:36. The blue side of the family aren't happy though.

3rd downs are an absolute disaster. The O line is terrible. Hackett is a joke too.
Luckily, we have a savage defence.
That was some performance by CJ Stroud last night.
Da' Bears were all over the shop again against the Saints. A Saints team that has been poor this season too.
5 turnovers is fairly inexcusable.

20 minutes before kickoff, with tickets ranging from 45 cents to $5.
Looking like a wild Wild Card Weekend. Tickets for the Chiefs Fish game down to $27 because of the -30 weather expected, Buffalo getting pummeled with snow before tomorrow's game.
And fuck off, Belicheat.

The Bears draft Caleb Williams. No real surprise.

Jets @ Vikes in London, Oct 6, confirmed.

Will do my best to make it across.
Ridiculous schedule for the Jets. Six prime time games in the first eleven weeks. Clearly the NFL hasn't learned from last season. A single Sunday 1pm game in the first three months of the season.
And I see the Giants have decided to go full on Montreal Canadiens with their throwbacks.
Got my ticket for London, but Christ, Ticketbastard didn't make it easy for anybody apart from their resale bots. "Log into the waiting room at 9am, but when tickets go on sale, you'll actually be given a random place in the queue"
Soo, the guy with a history of bad concussions, decided to lead with his head into the chest of the guy who's already died once from a heart attack.
Can't make this shit up.
A good few surprises yesterday. Great to see the Cowboys getting demolished at home by the Saints.

Yeah... JJ's going to be a huge loss.
Saleh was asked after the Jets lost in Week 1 if he thought it might be a good idea to use 235lb Braelon Allen in short yardage situations.
He said it was "something to look at".

Man is a fucking clown. If he'd spend as much time instilling discipline into the players as he does running up stadium steps, we might win some more games. Thirteen penalties.

Bears also 2 & 2 - good win against the Rams yesterday. Caleb Williams is showing up.
Saleh gets the chop. I'm not surprised, and it's deserved, but how the fuck did Hackett outlast Saleh. The Roger's impact is finally becoming apparent!
Long overdue, now Hackett and Keith Carter need to be fucked out the door too. And the amount of media trying to push the Belicheat to the Jets narrative. Stop fucking insulting people's intelligence. The cunt hates Woody and the Jets and is on record multiple times. It'd be like Gary Neville taking the Liverpool job.
Sunday had it's moments, there was almost as many "Saleh, you suck!" shouts as J-E-T-S chants. Impressed at the amount of Vikings fans that were at the game. Unlike the last couple of times I've been to Jets games in London, it felt like it was a proper away game - Falcons had fuck all fans in '21, and there were more Jets and Cheatriot fans than Fish fans in '15.
They basically left the stadium, and hopped a bus to Stansted that evening,I found that out from a security guard at the X-Ray machine. Our Ryanair flight was delayed, so I decided I was going to hang round to see Woody & co, then they announced for everyone to go to the gate immediately (about fifteen minutes before the team arrived) and then kept us waiting over an hour. >:(
Hope to be at the game Monday night, I'd be amazed if the NFL aren't on the phone to the Bills after seeing Allen hit his head off the ground like that.
What a game for Da' Bears yesterday! Caleb Williams looked unshakeable.
Trevor Lawrence must've felt like he was trapped in a nightmare.
The London series is great in terms of being able to watch a full game and not be dozing off in work the next day.
The NFL is planning to play eight international games next season per Roger Goodell this morning on NFL Network:
3 in London
1 in Brazil
1 in Germany
1 in Spain
1 in Mexico City
1 in Ireland (not yet confirmed)
Supposedly all AFC home teams, so it'd be the Steelers in Dublin.
Personally, I think this whole international bullshit has gotten beyond a joke. How long before we get games in Qatar?
The NFLPA need to make a stand on this, after all, the vast majority of their members hate these things.

Just Endure The Suffering.
I reckon that everyone in Ford Field bar Matt Eberflus heard me screaming "CALL A TIME OUT!" from Cork yesterday evening.
Jesus Christ. Make the short yards, bring Santos on for a FG attempt, force overtime.
Caleb Williams played out of his skin - I can only imagine that Eberflus thought Williams was going to pull off another TD pass.
Mad gamble though.
I'd say there's more than a few people hoping that CEO Killer would consider taking a job or two in the East Rutherford area...
Woody really deciding to fuck over Jets fans, not only jacking up season ticket prices for next season, he's now taking away a home game, by moving it to London. At Spurs ground, again. Which is admittedly, dead handy for Stansted flights.

The only way he could possibly make things worse is to offer Rogers another season!
I'll definitely look in to heading to London.
Confirmed for Oct 12 against the Broncos. Third bullshit London game in five years. And the dame weekend as NYCC, too. Bastards.
Not looking forward to the next few months of customers going "Are you going to that game in Croke Park? No? But I thought you were into that sport."
An hour in Ticketbastard's "waiting room", then get out into 108,000 place in the queue. Which then is almost constantly paused for the next two hours. 90 mins later Ticketmaster finally start explaining why the queue was paused. Apparently "Bad actors" had to be removed from the ticket buying process.. So I guess we'll not be seeing Nicholas Cage or Jack Black at the game.
End result, four hours after they went on sale, I get a ticket in the same section as last year's game against the Vikings. Forty quid more expensive.
All kicks off tonight.
I'm expecting maybe 5-6 wions for the Jets this season. AVT getting hurt again is no surprise.
0-17 here we come.
