DME pulling another fantastic surprise this month. Cancer playing from To The Gory End and Death Shall Rise.
DME going through their records and just managing to make calls and book them all has been immense this year alright.
They were ment to play Cork until Covid struck!,Death shall Rise a stone cold death metal classic for me!
Great stuff, well played H
There the only two Cancer I've got time for, should be a great night
Seen someone say its the first time they're playing Ireland, could have sworn I saw them as a support act around '02/03
Yeah, it's hard to believe they never made it over back in the day?
They were ment to play with Deicide in Dublin back in 1990,but missed the ferry apparently.(this is from some who was at the gig,Fancy Clancy)
They were meant to play Cork in 1991 according to a Fitzsimons gig article in the Echo at the time, but it fell by the wayside and we got Paradise Lost in Nancys soon after.
One of the finest leather jacket paintings done at the time was of Death Shall Rise. Murf from our secondary school (and scout group!) did a load of class work - Warmaster, Cause of Death, Coma of Souls, etc. Alas I didn't have the bobs to get my jacket painted :'(
They lost me after the first 2 albums as well I'm afraid. James Murphy leads though :-*
The Sins Of Mankind had a few decent tracks but that was it, Black Faith was woeful. The recentish comeback album was decent enough. Never took to To The Gory End TBH but Death Shall Rise was mighty, very underrated IMO. The lyrics were a bit... well, yeah.
Depending on ticket price I might head to this, it'll be a good one I reckon.
That and Emperor were two whopper announcements. I'd been very underwhelmed by a lot of the stuff recently - too much shite like Eluveitie and Finntroll etc these announcements have a little more chest hair on them and the ability to empty the wallet. Anyone any idea on ticket price for this one?

my first time coming across Shane Hickey back in the mid 90s he had DSR on the back of his leather jacket also.
Its hilarious,by the late 90s I thought id missed the boat with seeing all these original dm bands live!
I've never seen them myself Paul. A band I had forgotten to put on the bucket list. My teenage self is extremely happy in the last fortnight.

Yeah same,Death Shall Rise a big album for me getting into DM in my teens.I still rate it as one of the best produced DM albums from that era.
Cancer are a band that completely passed me by. What do ye recommend as go to albums and are there any to avoid?
Most people jump between To the Gory end,and Death shall rise as their best.Personally DSR is their best.
The other albums never did it for me that much, until the latest album 4/5 years ago, thats very good.
Definitely get stuck into the first 2 albums, seems they'll be heavily focusing on those live.
To The Gory End (did nothing for me but I'm in the minority) and Death Shall Rise, definitely. Shadow Gripped is decent and The Sins Of Mankind has a few good tracks. Avoid Black Faith, I wouldn't know where to start with that one.

Definitely not just saw the band posted a comment on the facebook announcement
"It's taken us more than 35 years, but we'll make it worth the wait. See you there! CFC."
Yeah, saw that after I posted alright. Well, better late than never

Pretty much the same for me,DSR over TTGE anyday.
They released an ep thingy about 20 years ago too when they briefly reformed, heard a track on one of the Terrorizer cds ,pure scutter.
Shadow Gripped solid album,i really like it!
I heard DSR first and that's their peak for me, so that was probably it. TTGE was never going to match it.
I seen them last year in London and they delivered the goods. Very strong performance it was

True. Deicide only had the first album out and threw in one song from Legion, which hadn't been recorded yet so it was a very short gig, excellent as it was
Death Shall Rise is the only Cancer album I got into, largely because of Murphy. The rest of their stuff isn't great.
Zealot Cult supporting...........................................................
Mighty, can't see enough of these lads playing the fuck out of all the strings.Always savage
I haven't seen Zealot Cult in years. This is shaping up very nicely.
Looking forward to this gig, only a few weeks away...
DSR will always be a classic....over 30 years listening to it now ???
Yep heading up myself, absolutely adore DSR!.Live footage looks impressive too.
Was hoping to head up but cant make it now - I have 1 ticket available if anyone wants them, PM me...
This Sat night....lookin forward to the tunes from DSR in particular but it's a long overdue visit to these shores...
Love how the title of this thread has shades of Inniskeen Road: July September Evening. The bicycles go by in twos and threes. There's a dance in Cancer Whelan's barn to-night... :abbath:

And the half talk code of de mysteriis, and the wink and elbow language of delight...
 :abbath:
Looking forward to it,a real nostalgia trip.
DSR second death metal album I was introduced to after Leprosy. Carries huge nostalgic value. Hard to credit where the past three decades have vanished to. Any word on stage times yet?

DSR is their best, but they tend to play more stuff off TTGE... saw them last year at UKDF and it was highly enjoyable!
Doors 7
@damim_uk 7.30
@zealotcult 8.20
@cancerofficialband 9.20
(subject to change)
1 ticket for sale for this still for anyone interested ! PM me.....
Friend unable to travel so have ticket for sale. Can meet anywhere in city centre or at Whelan's. Pm if interested. Thanks.
That was pretty good, only caught the end of "Damim", bought the tape they had for sale. Some very interesting artwork.
Zealot Cult were rocking I'll be picking up the new album.
Cancer, I can't remember the last time I heard "Hung, Drawn and Quartered" or "Cancer fucking Cancer". Quite enjoyed.
Crowd was pretty good, bit mad. Circle pit had its moments. Noticed some guy lost a shoe took him ages to find it. The dude on the left of the stage as you lok at it with his head on the triple speaker    brilliant "some buzz tonight"
Yes throughly enjoyed!
nice setlist definitely. what a pity Whelan's floor is so slippy and dangerous to do some proper moshpit...Capture.JPG
Haha i stepped on a shoe up the front alright! .
That was a throughly enjoyable night!,great buzz!
Unreal gig. Cancer were savage, proper death metal. Made Obituary look like White Zombie
Like stepping back in a time machine to when I first heard death metal, that musical genre that was never supposed to be pretty. Fantastic night with nice few beers. What's not to like?
Great gig....nice to finally hear death shall rise live...
Shame the cancer merch was so poor but can't have everything
What's the craic with the crap merch now that you mention it. It's been dreadful for many of the bands I've seen this year.
