Not the worst. Very much the same vibe as The System Has Failed, being, as far as I know, their last "back to the roots" style album. Prob won't incite me to listen to the whole record though tbh.
Decent enough alright, I'll probably give it a listen just because Digiorgio did the bass tracks although I'm not sure how much input he'll have actually had
As far as I know he just re-recorded Ellefson's bits (his bass bits!) note for note.

Yeah, I thought the same thing myself. From that track it sounded like he is not playing lines he wrote. I hope he was at least offered the bassist job. They have some other lad joining as a full time member. I can't think of a better metal bass player than Mr Digorgio.
A continuation of Dave's war porn fetish. Good solos from Kiko, completely unnecessary rapping from Ice-T lumped in there, too. You win some, you lose some. Could be worse, could be better. Typical Megadeth, so.

Awful lot of wasted potential in that song. Some class speedy riffs, tasty solos, lovely bass lick part way through but the vocal phrasing is so jarring. Mustaine trying to cram in far too many words to describe how aroused he his by American military. Ice T might as well have not been in the song for the few seconds he got.
Few seconds too many, it was fucking cringeworthy. Has its moments but Mustaine's voice (which was never great TBH) is just gone, and it's all kind of... generic, really.
Them leads are class tho
Lead playing on these tracks are technically great but fuck me the songs are woeful. Why are the vocals so high in the mix when they're clearly shite?
Lazy lyrics, awful vocals, whole sections lifted from Good Mourning/Black Friday, shite sterile production, shitty album art. Wasted potential is the perfect description - Mustaine's playing has always been technically head and shoulders above the likes of Slayer and Metallica so I always expect more from a songwriting perspective, but I'd put this on a par with the recent output from both those bands.
I'm enjoying them songs more on repeat listens. Probably the first Megadeth songs I've bothered to give repeat listens to since United Abominations. Kiko's style is fairly tasty.
I didn't realise Ice T was in the track until this thread. I just thought his part was a sample or something
That song is absolute shit, and the leads don't in any way save it. In other words, no way I would listen to the tune again just to hear the solos.
That's pretty shite alright. Mustaine vocals are absolutely shocking, can only imagine how bad they'll be for live shows
An even bigger travesty is that the original versions of the classic albums are gone off Spotify leaving behind only those atrocities of remastered and remixed editions
Not fit for a Youthanasia B-side
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5M8K2Jm2bE
Nor a The System Has Failed B-side for that matter, since it's totally in that mould again.
It's shite, whatever it is.
Jaysus that new song is dire, looking like this album will be another Supercollider based on the songs released so far
I kinda like the first song. But the last one was defo a bit, MEH!
Ice-T part was pointless. Would have preferred Mustaine himself to snarl through it. He's gonna do it live, anyway.
Quote from: Black Shepherd Carnage on August 12, 2022, 07:12:27 PMNor a The System Has Failed B-side for that matter, since it's totally in that mould again.
It would definitely fit alongside the songs from The System Has Failed alright. Very much like a simplified version of the intro riffing to 'Kick The Chair'. I actually think it's better than the other songs released but if this is what he's showcasing for the new album, well...
All the songs so far are grand, nothing to get excited about, probably be decent enough live. But I'm not going to be rushing out to pick this up based on these tracks
Album will be out tomorrow. Expectations are very low based on what's been released so far. Still though, can't be any more boring than Daves appearance on Joe Rogan!
But... but... Blabbermouth gave it 9/10 and said it's the best thing since Countdown... or Endgame
Played the leak there..boring enough...couldn't last the whole slog...nothing grabbing the attention
I've liked the few tracks I've heard so far, looking forward to the album landing on the doorstep.
Sounds great to me! Razor sharp playing throughout and some great songs. Lets see how it ages.
Have listened through a couple of times today and yesterday and I'm enjoying it. I liked the first 2 songs they put out before the release, the third one was just okay. Didn't listen to Endgame which was supposedly good but this is better than the last couple Megadeth albums I've listened to.
It's not even bad, just completely vanilla and forgettable.

Yeah I found it tremendously dull. Nothing there at all to capture the imagination.
Least imaginative mission to Mars ever
That Mars song might just be the worst thing he has ever done. It's at least Risk and Supercollider level.
This is an interesting read, finally abit of honesty. The pair of tits deserve each other.

It's frustrating as Verbeuren and Loureiro are some of the best players to ever play in the band, but it's all bogged down by MegaDave forgetting how to write memorable songs.
And that cover of Police Truck, fucking hell

Hardly saying anything at all. I'll always be curious enough to listen to whatever Metallica, Megadeth put out but realised long ago that it's not worth shelling out $40 for a vinyl version of something that'll be listened to once or twice only to collect dust on a shelf forever more.
Gave it a spin on spotify and it's a chore to get through. The title track is the most effective but given that it's the opener it's literally all downhill from there. There's a track near the end that's obviously modelled on Black Friday which woke me up somewhat and then we're done.
Dave is completely spent too

So is it only me then who thinks it's their best since 'Countdown..' ???

That's painful. I checked in other videos and he always seems to look down at what he is playing as if he is worried he'd make a mistake.
I'd have to assume that someone of his calibre wouldn't fluff the riffs. The vocals are just bad and I don't like saying it as who am into criticise him but it's so so weak.

Back on the gear, from the sound of it. No way is that man clean and/or sober.
Wow, he certainly doesn't look or sound healthy, especially if you compare his performance with the current high energy form Metallica are on. He looks at least ten years older than he is. Hopefully he can get himself back in order whatever is going wrong but looking at his face the first thing that I thought of was dementia. I wonder if his mind is beginning to go.
His mind is on a mission to Mars.
I highly doubt that he is back on the gear. He sounded alright at Hellfest this year, which was surprising because his voice hasn't been great live for a long time now, and he is 61 and had throat cancer.
But yes that clip is a bit grim.
Checked out the Hellfest footage briefly and you're right - he looks healthy and well and the performance isn't too shabby.
That TV appearance is something else though. You couldn't fork out money if that's the level of performance you'd receive. It's as bad, if not worse than the footage of Jon Bon Jovi's vocal performances on their most recent tour. Just goes to show, they'll take the money and people will give it.
In my opinion their last great album was Youthanasia. One or two albums since then have been decent, but not classics by any means. I have not heard their new album yet, going off the reviews i've read about it, i'm not missing out.
Considering he is an ex Junkie/alcoholic and had Cancer I'd say he's doing well. It has most likely caught up with him. All the years of abuse like.
Some really tasty playing but jaysus it's a dull album. New level of cringe lyrics too. A pity, I really enjoyed Dystopia.
Just heard that Marty Friedman will be doing a gig with Megadeth in Japan next week. I'm so jelly.
It's going to be livestreamed apparently, dunno if that's any use to you.
Most exciting thing they've done in years. They've had some fabulous guitarists but they've all been robots. Marty for the win.
Yeah I've heard about the livestream, but I'm in no rush to pay $15 to see a video that's gonna end up on YouTube anyway.
He's playing onstage with Kiko so it will be interesting to see who plays what. Looking forward to a 3 guitar shred fest at some point.
It would be great if he played somewhere closer to here, I've never seen him live.
I was fortunate enough to see them on the Rust In Peace tour, so at their peak (for me anyway). They were immense.
I saw them on the Countdown tour- also at their peak. Not remotely arsed with anything they do now but for some reason over the past week or so, my phone has been giving me endless Megadeth 'news'...
Nobody gives a fuck about their new album so the only way they can drum up news is by getting a lad who won't join the band to play a couple of songs with them and charge money to stream it.
They don't get my money until Poland comes back 😂
Not true, There's plenty of love for the latest one out there, bar a few cheesy moments it's a bonafide riff fest
No it's true it's an absolute snoozefest.
The remark that 'Nobody gives a fuck about the new Megadeth album' is definitely untrue, whatever your take on it.
Link to the songs they played with Friedman.
https://youtu.be/MpIWvLNpCzI
It speaks volumes that these 3 songs is all that anyone will be interested over the newer material.
This lineup would interest me more so long as Ellefson keeps his pants on...

He's the guitarist with Wintersun.
Not familiar with him or them, but I'm sure he's got the chops for it.
Hired gun replaces hired gun.
We're all just hired guns I suppose
Dave Ellefson thought he was a pump action hired shotgun

I'm surprised they could get him out of the sauna.
Not that Wintersun fella...
He can fairly shred

I see Kiko Loureiro has organised an extended leave of absence - Mexican Stand-Off? Has he asked for the proverbial percentage after such a long tenure?
Hardly a wise move, if that's what it is, given the long history of disposable chumps in Megadeth. Does anyone actually give a single fuck if it's Kiko or any other temp worker playing the Tornado of Souls solo, once they play the solo? Oul Marty has been sniffing around too. For a lad who lives in Finland, you'd think he might know what thin ice looks like, wha?
I hear ya, but after such a long time I get it, it's quite possible he's on a lot less than you'd imagine as is the case so often with these things. If you're going to be away from home 11 months of the year it'd want to be worth it to your family.
There's been a load of these cases recently Sergio in Deftones and Jay from Slipknot both with long residency and all with as you say the same outcome.
I thought I saw somewhere online that his absence was because he was getting divorced? Possibly only saw that in the comments on Blabbermouth though.
Still, I wouldn't fancy his chances on returning to the band at all. But as has already been said, who gives a fuck who is in that band anymore.
I do
The days of the other musicians contributing significantly to the Megadeth sound are long gone. The revolving door doesn't bring any fresh ideas to the table anymore, doesn't really matter what hired hands show up, as long as they can play the classics the MegaDave show will roll on.
Mustaine has released a lovely meandering statement
https://blabbermouth.net/news/dave-mustaine-we-will-move-forward-with-teemu-maantysari-as-guitar-player-for-megadeth
I seen on blabbermouth they have signed up with yet another auction site.
Lets say Mustaine is hard up for cash, he's got those hired hand agreements for Kiko and Teemu. Its a great opportunity for these lads to be in Megadeth. As we learned from Drover Bro's and Broderick, I'll chuck Al P n Jimmy DeGrasso in as well, really they don't do anything. They show as a blip via Megadeth then pretty much audios.
Really the Megadeth brand crawls on, with a mediocre output. Not saying the last two albums were totally bin moments (not like super collider / Risk).
Is that it? Really.....
We must be extremely close to the end then.
Just that you mention hard up for money and the auction site - Some of the turnouts on the recent US run have been abysmal. They really are such a shit live act.
Thanks Pagan Saviour, I wasn't aware.
Kinda sad really.
Whoa back up... Thoughr they were good in Wacken
I enjoyed watching them at Bloodstock this year. Dave's voice isn't great but that's nothing new. The rest was excellent
Ok.....so Kiko is defo not going back.

"I wasn't fired, I CHOSE to leave!!"
Might be reading into it a bit much, but it sounds just a tiny bit pointed. 'I have taken the liberty of choosing not to be in Megadeth' is an odd way of phrasing it otherwise.
Just seems weird that if he knew months ago he was leaving, why bother with all that extended leave of absence bollocks
Everyone knew he was out, I'd say the horseshit was whilst they ironed out his exit. God knows what was in his contract
