Title: The Ancient Dark
Post by: Anton Arcane on January 29, 2022, 07:31:21 PM
This is a band/ project that I've been working on for the last few years. This song is taken from an EP that will be released in March. I'm trying not to be too tight with genres but if I was pushed I would call it melodic death metal. That being said though there's some doom and other influences in there too. I did all the instruments and vocals and it was recorded by Michael Richards at Trackmix.

I've plans for other releases and wouldn't rule out putting a live band together in the future. I'll post links to bancamp and any relavent social media pages soon.

Have a listen.

Not really something I would listen to generally but fair play man. Well written, played and catchy. The cleans work very well.

Not bad. I can't help thinking that you should have slowed down the clean part. Shift it down a gear, a bit of background acoustic and slow the drums there to make it a bit darker. It would have added a bit more contrast. A dark little solo wouldn't go astray either. Catchy stuff though.

That's really good . I'd agree that giving the clean part a bit more room in the song as in paring back the drums would have lifted the song .
Having said that I like the almost 80's synth wave style the clean vocal has.
I hope that's received as the compliment it's intended to be.

100% Spot on. I'm a sucker for synthwave and generally anything with an 80s dark pop vibe.

Thanks for the feedback lads. And I get the point about the musical dynamics during the clean vocals. I like the juxtaposition it gives but it's an interesting idea for sure.

I did get a bit of a Depeche Mode buzz off it which is cool. Fair play!

Cyrptic Blood did a run of limited edition cassettes for the EP. There's a standard tape and a version that includes a MiniDisc. Yes, an actual MiniDisc. Extremely limited numbers for both and they are now up on Bandcamp.
