Title: 40 Watt Sun
Post by: Eoin McLove on October 28, 2021, 11:44:33 AM
Maybe this should be in the off topic section but there's a new 40 Watt Sun album called 'Perfect Light' coming out in May trough Svart. The first single has been released and I've had it on twice in row. Very minimal and repetitive as you'd expect but with a much richer production and a wider (yet still delicate) sense of orchestration. Looking forward to hearing the full album as I love the other two.

Completely agreed, the production is very rich sounding. Really looking forward to this release.

The pre-order is up and the vinyl looks quite tasty:

A second song, 'Until', has been posted and it's another winner.

I'm giving The Inside Room another go after not touching it since release. Impressions haven't changed much except the production seems particularly poor? I didn't notice that before.

Its a good collection of songs but at the time I was one of those disappointed with the change of direction post Warning and today I'd still feel its a massive step down from WFAD.  I listened to the Roadburn live version of that today as well and it really is a hairs on the back of your neck album, same as it was in the noughties. Has aged well. I feel the power of the guitar and those doom drums compliment the lyrical weight so importantly on Watching... and that is missing from The Inside Room.

I am not at all averse to downbeat acoustic folk rock so perhaps I should catch up on newer 40WS.

There's no doom at all really in Wider Than The Sky or in either of the songs from the new album that they have released so far.

I love Watching but I listened to it to death back then and these days I am way more into The Strength to Dream. It's an utterly savage album.
