I'm intrigued by this. It's great to see it back, which is the main thing. I do wonder what the ticket allocation is like. I know it's essentially back in no-restrictions land and I completely understand the need for ticketing but I'd say it could be surprisingly sparse.

Still, to see gigs trickling through again from the perspective of last year's nadir is quite something. There's music in Fibbers and Fred Zeppelin's in Cork that weekend too on the Friday & Saturday respectively. You'd think the gigs forum would be hopping a bit more - quiet as this place is - but it's been a long fucking time I guess.

I got quite good at making myself not give a toss over the last year and a half but yeah. I think when this weekend comes I'll be chomping at the bit to bang the head.

I am worn but that was some serious sport.  Caught a good few of the bands.  Dolan's has had a massive overhaul so the downstairs courtyard (between all the stages) was now the merch area, upstairs smoking area is opened out to cover the whole roof - at least four times the size it was before.  Only stages open were Warehouse and Kasbah, but it made it handier to catch most of the bands.

Settler were deadly opening the gig, tight heavy metal.  Shardborne & Ornith on at the same time, but managed to catch about half of each before we played, both unreal too.  Corr Mhona were top class too, great atmosphere live from them, perfect Warehouse band.

Had to miss Sacrilegia to fly out for a bit, back for half of Vircolac & most of Dread Sovereign - both excellent.  Never heard a note of DS before so that was a great surprise.

Missed most of The Crawling unfortunately because I loved them last time I saw them, but got caught under the flurry of chatting to people and pints in the smoking area.  Nomadic Rituals, band of the night for me.  Absolutely immense, immersive, top tier doom/sludge.  Can't believe it's only three lads.  Saw a little bit of Heavy Artillery but I was utterly ossified so made a sly escape.

Played the Warehouse meself and really enjoyed it.  Setup for bands is great and everything ran smoothly as usual.  Sound was unreal for every band.  It was right busy all day at it but thanks to the opened upstairs, it wasn't wedged and you could move around handy.  Great to see so many lads after this long without it.

Caught Corr Mhona going in and they were great, new stuff sounds great live.

Sacrilegia were brilliant too, couple new tracks there that sounded very very good, looking forward to those. Vircolac then were the highlight for me, hadn't managed to see them in years so was delighted. Dread Sovereign were great too.

Ended the night twisted and roaring lyrics to Heavy Artillery which was a bit of chaos. Everyone blowing off steam which was good craic.

Savage to have it back. The new seating area upstairs is fantastic. Craic was 90 at it catching up with everyone. The Crawling and Nomadic Rituals were fantastic.

For all the uncertainty leading up to it around restrictions and whether it could even go ahead, that was a massive success. Mighty craic was had all evening, everybody there was on flying form and the music was savage. The new upstairs area with all those tables and coverings is class, and even though they had to slightly reduce the capacity for this one,  it was nice to be able to head out to the front bar and get a seat at any time for a breather, a pint and a chat.

Third Island and Vircolac were solid. Highlights for me were probably Corr Mhona, Sacrilegia and then Dread Sovereign -- who really got a few heads banging at that point in the night. Special mention to Nomadic Rituals who were utter filth too. By that stage we were steaming! Given it was the first live gig in almost two years, everyone seemed fairly well behaved.

As somebody mentioned above, when Heavy Artillery came on as the final band there was a good crowd of people really going for it and blowing off some steam. Well needed. My voice is shot to bits now after roaring along to their versions of Bomber and Black Metal. Still not quite right today and like a fucking eejit, I didn't book work off.

Worth every second though. Fair play to the Bad Rep crew and all involved. I was briefly chatting to Ciaran later on into the night and he seemed chuffed with how it was all playing out.  :abbath:

Delighted we were able to pull this off. Twas a real rollercoaster of a week leading up to it!

The crowd was fantastic. Everyone played ball with the rules and respected the venue in dealing with the restrictions. There was no trouble and it was smiles all round. Couldn't have asked for a better crowd tbh. Really happy with the sound, lights and stage hand and gear room crew. They all put in crazy hours and made the day run really smoothly.

I didn't get to see as many bands a`s I would have liked to with the running around doing stuff but opening the Warehouse with Shardborne was amazing for me. We felt like we'd a blast on stage and had such a strong crowd, especially for such an early time of the day!

Only black mark for me is the Anti Vaxxers who made it their mission to comment under every social media post we made in the leading up to the event. No pleasing some people. Gets pretty exhausting dealing with that shit constantly after nearly 2 years of not having normal shows and doing everything we can to bring something good to people.

Now roll on the Easter Siege!

Great photos from the Siege by Shane J Horan, cork based photographer. They're hosted on Facebook but you don't need an account to have a gawk.

Maybe it's a privacy thing but I've always found it a  bit naff with photo dumps like this that you get a gazillion spooky upward shots of band members but virtually none of the crowd or atmosphere. Majority of those photo albums may as well have captured a lockdown style online session.

Granted it's not a mad wall of death and people are fickle nowadays but swing the thing around 180 for some context.
