I realise it's the Guardian so what do you expect but thought would share this all the same.
Will Heavy Metal be saved by the wokerati? I've never heard of any of these bands but that could just be me.
Here comes the nigga lovaa
Hiiiiiiiiiii ❤️
What an absolute load of bollocks i would like to strangle whoever wrote that
I had no idea Life of Agony still existed. They were no great shakes back in the day.
Life of Agony were deadly.
Seems to be loads of Metal Hammer sort of bands. It's for the generation coming up now so it naturally means fuck all to old cunts like most who post here. A mere trend that will be big for five years and then back for another spin in 20 (like nu metal). If some of these woke kids grow up a bit and find the good stuff there might actually be a future for good underground metal. Sure look at me. I was into as much shite as good stuff in the 90s and now I'm single handedly saving Irish metal from itself. You're welcome, by the way. Pack of fucking ungrateful bastards.
My wife sent this article to me today.
Everything about it is what’s wrong with that newspaper.
Life Of Agony are excellent. A band I never got to see live.
I'm amazed that 'sieg heil' has been used as a verb, describing Phil Anselmo 'sieg heiling'... Surely there's a better way to write that?
There's a market out there for Anti-Woke punk bands. I'd call mine Fuck your Pronouns.
Vile Creature are excellent, but super woke and nice and inoffensive. Thou are also great, if a bit samey. Their ERR collaboration is splendid.
Never thought much of LOA, I have the first album here somewhere on tape, I doubt I gave it more than two or three spins.
Ban this fucking thread already.woke my arse.
I tried reading that article and got as far as family blah blah and everyone is welcome in the pit. This has nothing to do with me, nothing to do with my youth. Never heard of a pit when I was sixteen . Stand and bang your head with pint in hand. Pit me hole.
They can have 'em 8)
To clarify, anyone who's been going to rock/metal gigs for decades has met all colours/strands/dresscodes/sexualitys/...like,...it's not even an issue. My problem is seeing the hideous word 'woke' and all it's whiney ,poor me, therapy sessions booked connotations beside the stand alone independence of Metal.
Ah fuck it, away to bed with the original pressing of Vol.4 and not the super deluxe edition with his and hers eggcups.
Quotehistorically, metal has also been a hostile space for women, people of colour and the LGBTQ+ community
Hear hear, It's about time somebody came out and said it!
Hopefully this article draws a lot of attention, so that the likes of Phil Lynott and Rob Halford can finally be acknowledged for their outstanding contribution to metal on an international scale
If there's one thing I love to do it's seek out LGTBQ individuals for the appropriate abuse at metal concerts. It's what I specifically spend tickets for goddammit.
It's grand that there is some representation for the disenfranchised in metal, but other than LOA who are long past their best I dunno about any of em. Does it really matter what they are saying anyway if the music is any good?
Surprised Liturgy didn't get a mention with Triple H getting turned into a woman.

I nearly didn't read it after that opening salvo, but the article was benign enough and sure if it gets more of the youth playing metal we might even get a few good tunes out of it in the future
The Kerrang style rock/metal scene has always been a safe space for the weirdos, outsiders, homosexual, bullied etc etc types. It was when I was a kid in the 90s and no one batted an eyelid.
Your independent lone wolf metal head tended to gravitate to the underground scene and either stuck with it or 'grew up'. The alternative Kerrang crowd were usually only in it for reassurance and friendship until they too grew up. Today's crowd seem to want attention and recognition whether deserved or not. A result of the look at me internet age....
God i nearly needed to be woke after reading that shite!.
I only found out very recently that the LOA front man is now a women,a band i had a passing interest in back in the 90s.
I'm actually quite down with the whole LGBTHIV+ movement myself.
I think Herr Kristoph's ramblings have finally gotten to me :-[
My problem with this is simply that most of the bands just seem fucking terrible to me - I listened to one Tertarch song and it's some generic metalcore or nu metal bullshit, if these are the bands changing the face of metal you'd think they'd have more memorable tunes?
Well metal music is sometime about killing people - sometimes with extreme prejudice - so a Cannibal Corpse type band singing about getting along or rainbows n roses doesn't really appeal. Especially for someone like myself who hates everyone equally.
All those bands are absolute shite, when there is shite spouted about bands having "diverse" members they never talk about actually decent "diverse" bands like Mythic , Nuclear Death, Blasphemy, Bolt Thrower, Electric Wizard, Adorior, Derkéta etc. tis always shite nu-metal or hardcore bands where the focus is on how woke they are and not the actual music.
