Title: Altar of Perversion
Post by: open face surgery on February 02, 2021, 01:05:23 PM
Big fan of the last album, Intra Naos, which at nearly 2 hours is a big enough ask, but ultimately rewarding. I know I saw the name mentioned here on an occasion or two around the time of its release. There was an interesting Bardo interview that stated the album was recorded at 432hz, the frequency of the universe. This is what piqued my interest but I don't think it affected the listening experience.

Never checked out the previous album, From Dead Temples, before now, which at an impressive 17 years prior to Intra Naos, is a more straight forward endeavour while still holding or having established the sound that makes the band. The layering of the clean guitar I find reminiscent of Esoteric or Evoken bringing a doom vibe to it. Seems more prominent on Intra Naos but I suppose at the length of it everything is.

Hadn't heard these before, listening through Intra Naos at the moment, sounds amazing, it's the type of material you just let absorb you. Great recommendation.

Intra Naos is deadly must give their previous one a go!

Intra Naos is a far more trippy affair whereas the debut only really hints at that. Obviously need to give it more time but first impressions were top tier.

Yep, I clicked the Bandcamp link today to check them out only to find that I was already actually following them on Bandcamp.
So I'd say there was a heads up or maybe even a thread on them around the time of their last album release.
Glorious stuff altogether and I'm going to stick them on again now myself.

Yes indeed. It's a really engrossing album. That Bardo interview is interesting. I have very little understanding of the frequency stuff. As you say, it doesn't really change how I 'hear' it or whatever.

I'd love to read the take of someone who is more tuned into that kind of stuff. Nonetheless, it is an exceptional piece of work.

They weren't on my radar when 'From Dead Temples' came out so going back to it after being floored by 'Intra Naos' meant it suffered by comparison.  Good album, the seeds are there, but yeah.

While I enjoy their earlier work, , Intra Naos is just so expansive and immersive. As for the frequency stuff, it would be interesting to gain a better understanding must delve a little deeper.

Ya, the second listen was slightly more laboured. Some great bits but it didn't help that I listened to Intra Naos inbetween.
