Yeah I've a shitload myself so I'll be following this.
Funnily, I got my whole torso done by Joe and found the stomach to be handiest part. A bit tiddly below the belly button, but nothing excruciating.
Got part of my palms done a few weeks ago (Literally millimeters) and that was without doubt the worst I've had, followed closely by the collar/throat.
I'll try lash up a few pics when I get the time.
:abbath:
Have no knee or belly tats, but the mid chest area and below the tit was hurting the most. The amount of pain also depends on the type of the tattoo........just shading, more colors, etc.

Nice one man.
Jaws I got to do. I'm getting to do a lot of cool movie ones lately.
Also can someone tell me why my photos appear so big on the screen. It's fucking head wrecking.
Far better to see them bigger I reckon, don't worry about it, awesome work again
I got a chest tattoo yesterday of the young lad's handprint. I'm looking for advice on aftercare. Google is no help!
I have tattoo balm which I'm applying after washing with soapy water and drying off with a paper towel. Just wondering whether I should be covering the tattoo with a Saniderm bandage or something similar, or whether it's grand to leave it uncovered? Cheers.
Leave it uncovered, use Bepanthen nappy rash cream on it 3 times a day after cleaning it, for a week. Avoid Savlon, it draws the ink out. When cleaning, use soapy water and dab it, don't scrub, wipe or hose down in the shower. Coconut oil is good for keeping it moist when it's scabbing.

I don't have any tattoos but I do have a brother who is covered in them from the neck down. He said that the best piece of advice that he got was from a tattoo artist in the US after he had his entire back done - recommended Preparation H, the piles cream. Said it worked a treat.
Failing that - nappy rash cream is good too apparently.

Good stuff. I have a load of Bepanthen here so that's handy. Thanks for the advice.

Preparation H  I'll try the oul Bepanthen first!
...
I remember the vile stench of pile cream from years ago. The advice I've gotten from two different artists recently are broadly the same. One said keep it 100% dry for two weeks apart from moisturiser after 7 days. Another said wash daily and no cream. I always follow the instructions of the artist I'm working with to the letter. Using your body to heal it instead of cream works though.
I generally use Bepanthen for a day or two and then use coconut oil whenever it gets itchy. Didn't use anything for my back and it healed sound, which sort of made me lazy about doing anything for proceeding ones.
I used Preparation H for one of my first ones back when I was still living at home, got some awkward looks from my mam when she found it in the bathroom!

Did you finally get that big swastika piece on your back??
If it's on your chest, then--apart from infection--the main thing you want to avoid is partially flaking ink snagging on clothes and getting pulled away too roughly, potentially taking ink that should remain beneath the skin with it. Any kind of natural, thick-but-not-too-thick moisturizer will do this, while also keeping it protected from potential infection. Even aqueous cream is a good option, and cheap.
I was going to necro bump this thread a while back. Which tattoo artists would you recommend in Ireland? I'm finishing out two bits with international lads at the moment. Been eyeing up the work of a lad in Carlow called Rossi De Messi (hope I spelled that right).
There is an artist based in Belfast, used to be in Cork called Alice Tierney.
Queenofdogshite on instagram. Her stuff is brilliant.
She moved before I had the funds. Pricey but the work looks brilliant when you see it in person.
Smiley dogg in Cork seem to be very popular with the black and white clocks/lacey woman brigade.
Eden Art Tattoo in Edenderry, Co. Offaly. Edel does amazing portrait work, Luna's no slouch either:

I have that swirling out of my arsehole. Turned out great and double duty for the piles cream.
What did you get on your back?

Bump for this thread. Finally got a few bob together so I can start to think about getting some work done including covering up a fairly shite tattoo from years ago. Anyone got an recommendations for good artists in the Dublin/Meath/Louth area?

If you're willing to travel a little further out, Edel from Eden Art in Offaly is absolutely brilliant, especially for black and white stuff
Seconded. Her stuff is stunning, particularly her portraits.
If Keith Murphy from The Overlook Tattoo Lounge in Dublin is still there, he is very good.
And Stuart Anderson in Forever Young Arts in Carlow.
Joey Deegan of course.
