Title: En Minor
Post by: Eoin McLove on November 22, 2020, 09:08:03 PM
I've been listening to bits and pieces from En Minor, Phil Anselmo's new band, over the past week or two. I really like it. It has a Nick Cave sort of feel to it but I also hear similarities to Steve Von Till and Scott Kelly's solo stuff. Phil's voice has been run ragged over the decades but the rough husky depth really suits the style here. I'll have to grab the CD one of these weeks.

There is rehearsal footage online at the moment for their livestream show. There is also footage of Phil with his pigs. !

It's one of my AOTY. Great stuff, I hear more Tom Waits than Nick Cave.

Would any if ye listen if he wasn't involved?
I've listened to it a fair bit just because of Phil and me thinking he is brilliant still. Having said that if I want thu sort of music there are so many more bands out theee that do it so much better.

Here is an example .
En minor had a live stream last night. I wonder how it sounded.

I imagine there will be a lot if these type acts coming out with lockdowns and too much time!

I probably wouldn't have checked it out if Phil wasn't involved but despite that, I think it's really convincing in its own right. His voice really compliments the noir feeling of the music.

Don't get me wrong ; I'd listen to him go through the phone book. His voice is so ridiculously deep on this stuff.  The songs are fine without being amazing.
Some of that dark Americana stuff is heavy without being traditionally heavy.
What I think is great about this project are the vocal harmonies. They give great texture to the whole thing..
Now if he could sort  out that Eibon record.

The new Scour EP is a good listen.  It's not Eibon but it's probably the closest thing we'll get.

I listen to a lot of dark Americana and I think this is right up there with the like of Jay Munly, Angels of Light, O'Death etc. Strong Mark Lanegan vibe as well.

CD landed today and it sounds fantastic through the stereo. The production is great. Phil's voice sounds excellent.
