Title: Tribulation - Where The Gloom Becomes Sound
Post by: Black Shepherd Carnage on November 14, 2020, 10:41:27 PM
First track and video:

Seems fairly pedestrian to me. "Stock," as Lars' dad might say, but sure we'll see what the album holds in store as a whole.

Sounds decent. Reminds me of Sister by In Solitude or Grave Pleasures, but with harsh vocals.

Nothing amazing, but they've set a fairly high bar!

I really want to like this next album. After TFOD, I welcomed the change in style on the follow up album, as a fan of In Solitude's last one as McLove mentioned there and that sound in general. Reality is I didnt end up going back to it too much. When Down Below came out I listened a couple of times and didn't go back to that at all. Threw it on again last week in anticipation for this and didn't make it through the full thing.

I think the harsh vocals stand out more with every release as being a bit one dimensional against the music, despite them being perfectly fitting on Formulas. Clean vocals or even just a variety in the harsher style would be welcome (Bolzer did it really well) But I'll give this a go nonetheless!

Ya they really could do with a clean vocalist. Everything they release now just sounds the exact same.
Boring stuff.

Decent track, totally hampered by the single dimension of the vocals. Totally kills it.

The vocals work well on TFOD and the follow up COTN but on the last album they started to grate. Needs something else.

Jonathan Hulten has upped and outed. If anyone was going to leave, it was going to be him I reckon. Not really the line-up change they might need though...

New track. Like the music and song writing in this one. Boring vocals once again that you can see coming a mile off before he even starts singing.

I didn't really like anything after Formulas.
The chorus riff from Funeral Pyre wouldn't sound out of place on Reinkaos, good stuff.
Will definitely give this new one a chance.
The Horror is still my favourite of theirs, what an album that was!

Ya, I lost interest very quickly after Formulas. Don't know why I'm even here.

Children of the night is a really good album. Took quite a few listens bit then it took hold. After that it's all gone a bit meh.

Was curious to check out what their guitarist Jonathan Hulten was up to since he left, didn't expect this (although I think he's been doing this solo stuff for a while now). He puts some effort into that gypsy woman getup as well tbf.

Same. Was listening to a bit of a podcast with Adam Zaars their other guitarist this morning and he said that Jonathan wrote 10 songs for the recording of their new one, whereas he only wrote 3 this time around. Whether it's good or not remains to be seen, but if that's the case it'd be hard to see how they'll end up sounding like the same band going forward if they write another album.

Interesting too I guess, to hear that right before he departed he was still this invested in writing with the band, fair play.

Listening to this now in full.

They clearly cogged the opening riffs for this off Bach's 'Suite In E Minor'...

Had a listen through the whole album for the first time there.

As said before the vocals can sound uninspired on the more laid back material, and the first half of the album is more or less all in that style.

The second half picks up tempo and energy wise. Will need more listens but on first impressions it's decent.

Will be interesting to see where they go musically on the next one with the loss of Jonathan.

I've given it a few listens throughout today, quite enjoying it.  Not as immediate as previous releases.
