Title: Speakers for record player
Post by: keeper of kalessin on November 08, 2020, 06:46:47 PM
I'm looking to pick up a relatively good set of speakers to listen to my vinyls through... I've got 100e to spend! Any suggestions or information welcome!

Got these during the summer for my record set up. First class speakers. Serious value for money.
Tidy size and a serious thump out of them.

Highly recommended.....

Was just about to recommend edifiers too.  I feel like there's a thread on this already here somewhere with a heap of recs.  But anyway:

a tenner over your budget but I have these and couldn't recommend them enough for the price.  Two aux ins and Bluetooth so you can rig a few things up to them at once too.

I got a set of Edifiers for 150e about 2 years ago. Active and they do the trick.

Seriously thinking about a set of Edifiers from Santy. I see different versions. There's a set come in around 140 euros too. Is there much difference between them?

I highly recommend the set I posted earlier in the thread Pedro.

I was asking about them. Ended up with pair of Edifier R1280T speakers for the pc. Sound great with youtube playing, and my wife uses them with work zoom/conference calls, with no issues.

Another vote for Edifiers. Honestly, they're the job. Quite bass heavy, but you can always dial that down.

I actually play my synths through them and they sound fucking tremendous even for that.

How would they be for more moody shit like Prog Rock with plenty singing? Or even stuff like Van Morrison, stuff like Cynic, Zepellin with lots of warm vibes to them? I'm asking coz all my records are that way inclined. Diamond head, Saxon also. Old stuff basically.

I played everything (Metal, Rock, Electronic, Reggae, etc) on my record player over the last 6 months and the speakers have stood up well to all.
You'll know when you hold them. Heavy as a wooden bucket full of elephant shite. Great for the price.

I got these recently for my daughter's house warming gift (along with a Sony record player).....

I moved into a house in the red light district in Eindhoven when I was living there 25 years ago and the previous occupants had left a nice wee record collection behind them for some reason.
About 120 reggae LPs and about 30 or so rock albums.
Polish person/people going by some of the writing on the sleeves. Dziękuję, przyjacielu... XXxX

Funny story: a mate of mine was staying over one Friday night a few years ago. Few drinks and smokes while playing records all evening/night.
Myself and the good lady called it a night but he sat up for another while.
Next morning I was making breakfast and he mentioned that he was playing some really heavy dub record when we went to bed. It was class he said, played it a few times.
Later that day I remembered this and went to check what he'd been playing the previous night.
It was 'Dub heavyweight' Eek-A-Mouse...
A 12" single called No Wicked. He'd been playing it on 33 instead of 45rpm....
I'm sure at 2am and after a lock a cayans and a bottle of Buckie flushed down with Jamaican Woodbines this sounded totally wonderful.
What a legend......

Looking at these, just wondering if anyone can tell this Luddite: what's the real world difference between the two? My head turns to mush where figures and specifications are involved:

This guy explains it well.

I have the non s. And the light on the side is a bit annoying but ymmv I spose.

So dbs seems to bring Sub out ie. You can connect your own sub woofer, nicer remote, bluetooth 5 and change in input light indicator with some added sound feedback for bluetooth functionality.

Wow, couldn't be clearer than that. Cheers for that, looks like the newer ones win out.
