Just listened to this album for the first time in a while, and it still blows me away. Such a shame it is their only release. Simple epic doom metal would be how I would describe it but it is on the same level as Hammerheart or Into the Depths of Sorrow for me and definitely one of my favourite albums. Recently been reissued on vinyl, which I had to buy, hence me listening to it again for the first time in a while. It is also a stunning release, a lot of effort has been put into it. Makes me want to dig out my old Bathory and Solitude Aeturnus albums which haven't seen the light of day for a while..
Amazing album, love the lead work and "Night Sky" is one of the best album openers of all time.
Great album indeed. I have the Kyrck edition so I didn't bother picking up the new version but I should grab a CD for the car at some point. You can really hear how much influence Doomsword took, particularly in the vocal department.
Not the local sludge band then? :D
"Will of the Gods" is one of those albums I've only ever seen huge praise for, but it's never really clicked with me. Not a huge fan of the vocals either.
Fart was selling the rerelease recently on tape so I picked it up, it's also on Bandcamp. Really fantastic stuff.
Yeah. Simply one of the best albums ever. Epic songwriting, godly singing. It's a shame that we'll never know what might have come next.
This album was reissued on double vinyl by ORDO MCM last month with 4 demo/live tracks as bonus. Definitely grabbing a copy.

Nice one - DLP and shirt of one of the greatest albums ever recorded will make a nice Christmas present for myself.
Scald have been announced for Hammer of Doom (November 2019, Würzburg). The four surviving members, with Felipe from Procession on vocals.

Interesting. I think Deathmaster (?) from Doomsword would be a better fit as he sounds similar to your man from Scald and has a much bigger range than Felipe, but I'd defo go see them if they played here. There is a danger that some of the magic and mystery of the album will be lost once they start gigging but it would be a fun night out.
Yeah, it'd be nice to see the songs, but Felipe - unless he's been undergoing intense training - isn't up to the most essential part of the "reproducing the magic of Scald" task.
Procession did a version of 'Night Sky' a few years ago, quite good, but Felipe just isn't in the same class as Agyl. Few are.

There are some great live clips of Scald back in the day on YouTube (if you don't mind rough sound & video) - check this one from a 1997 Yaroslavl festival:

ORDO MCM is also releasing INTOTHECRYPT in June, featuring members of Scald... not really sure if I like it that much, the epic touch Scald had is lost in this with harsher vocals IMO. In any case, here's the link...

Would be interested to hear that. Very different vocalists altogether, but I really rate Felipe, he's got that soul maaaan. As with his stint with solstice, I reckon he'll do it justice.
Thread necromancy...
Listening to Will of the Gods this morning. What a brilliant album. Agyl's vocals are just so incredibly catchy/ powerful/ epic...
I see they have a new album recorded with Felipe on vocals and there is a single coming out in the coming months called 'There Flies Our Wail!'. I wonder if Felipe has managed to tap into some of Agyl's magic for this. I always found him a competent singer with a strong delivery, just lacking in creative melodies. Here's hoping he has been possessed by the spirit of old...
Edit. Fuck it, I pulled a couple of Procession records off the shelf for a long overdue revisit.
If ever anyone could be interested. The demo will be released for the first time on vinyl. Here is the new artwork:

Beauty. Who's putting it out?
Messe Noire Productions along with Urtod Void Records (both in Germany). High Roller Records will also have a special version sold only by them.

A single from the forthcoming album is up now. It's grand. Might need a few spins to sink in properly. I still think that Felipe lacks the range to front Scald. Perhaps it's an impossible task for any singer to compete with Agyl, considering the mystique around him and his death. I wonder might it have been more appropriate and more exciting if they had found an obscure Russian singer to fill the void... Still though, I reckon Deathmaster from Doomsword would have made a stronger replacement in terms of range and melodic prowess. Sherlukkit... I'll buy the album when it's out and see if it works.
Edit. I'm a broken record haha.
In fairness to Felipe, his voice works really well in Procession. I had To Reap the Heavens Apart on in the past couple of weeks for the first time in yonks and it was great.
Didn't know there was a new album! Will be getting this. Might be my first vinyl purchase in a while.
It is grand. Agree with Andy on all counts there though. Procession are a great group but Felipe's vocals, while not bad, are audibly the band's ceiling rather than the element that makes them soar, and he's brought that over to Scald where that upper limit becomes all the more evident in light of Agyl's legacy.
