Title: Beyond Dawn
Post by: Eoin McLove on July 05, 2020, 11:11:46 AM
I think these lads deserve a dedicated thread. I picked up the recent Duplicate Records reissue of 'Pity Love' sort of on a whim while also picking up the Thorns s/t LP,  and it is fantastic. Downbeat,  gothy, doomy and occasionally doom deathy stuff with really catchy song writing. The prominent use of brass puts me in mind of Bohren & der Club of Gore and somehow at other times makes me think of The Unthanks. I suppose you could also throw a bit of later Ulver out as a suggestion, but this is more rock sounding than electronic. Whatever it is,  it's brilliant. Are their other albums worth listening to? I have listened to the one with all the lads dressed up at a tea party on the cover and it sounded alright as I recall, but I'll need to revisit. Did they turn into a kind of Britpop sounding band at some point? I have that in my head for some reason.

Edit. I imagine Wyrding have listened to this album more than once.  Their stuff makes a lot of sense after hearing this.

Fired off for the 'Revelry' LP. I'm quite hooked on these dudes I have to say.

Goth, doomy and The Unthanks? You've piqued my interest there. That's going on the list of stuff to check out. Nice one.

The Revelry LP arrived during the week.  Not as dark or enticing as Pity Love,  but it sounds like it might be a grower.
