Title: Pearl Jam - Jeremy Uncensored
Post by: Emphyrio on June 08, 2020, 12:15:00 AM
"The increase in gun violence since the debut of 'Jeremy' is staggering. We have released the uncensored version of the video which was unavailable in 1992 with TV censorship laws," Pearl Jam said in a statement. "We can prevent gun deaths whether mass shootings, deaths of despair, law enforcement, or accidental."

An already amazing video, not necessarily made better, but cuts to the bone more. Class.

Class alright. The version they played at the '92 MTV awards might be the best I've heard:

I kinda lost touch with them myself. Too much folk stuff. Now, they could have a hape of good stuff since and maybe it was just a Neil Young worship era but I've not been very interested to discover.

one of these days we'll have a thread discussing why they never did anything of worth after Vs apart from one or two songs here and there

Vitalogy is a brilliant album. No Code and Yield are good. Rest of them are poor.

'Jeremy' pops into my head now and then, that intro specifically, with the bass riff going. I think it's a well constructed song, and probably their best work, but I was never into the band personally. Listened to AIC, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Tad etc, more than Pearl Jam back in the day. I do like Vedder's voice but so many ripped his style off (Nickelback? Creed?), it's hard to tell how many.

I couldn't get any enjoyment out of any of it after Vitalogy. Would still listen to the first three on occasion, but that's it.

Huge Pearl Jam fan for years, my very first concert was them in Milsteet, Cork on the No Code tour. Kept up with them till binaural. Fell off not long after and had zero interest in their output.

Think I've seen them live 3 times during that time and then Eddie Vedder solo when he played in the tent in Cork.

Krusen & Abbruzzese were fucking amazing drummers, the best of the lot by far.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQaDz-IVG-0   @1:45 just love his style (6million cymbals)
I never liked jack irons and I find Cameron quite dull.

Their MTV unplugged session is so fucking good, one of the best.. as were pretty much all of the grunge bands.

One thing that bugs me about them when they play live these days is some of the older stuff like even flow, awesome slow groove to the song but they speed it up so much it totally loses that feel.

It really was a landmark that album, captured the zeitgeist, they'll still be listening to it in 50 years time in the same way we're still listening to The Beatles/Zeps.

94-03  ;)

It's a shame they used the remixed version of the song for the video. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the original. Still, nice to see what was unpalatable to MTV after all these years. I'm not surprised the Nazi salute for the Pledge of Allegience got the chop either, it's just as one the nose as the gun aspect.

No Code was a massive let down, I still think it's shite. Yield is decent and I'd have a bit of time for Backspacer but yeah, other than that, weak stuff dominates.

The lad in the video drowned age 36. That's a bit sad.

So... what was censored originally?
Cause it all looks exactly like I remember it from back in the day.
Was it only in the States that it was censored, maybe?
