Did you make music during the confinement? Does it sound sicker than usual?
Does it sound more angry and brutal, or more depressed and sorrowful?
Post some links!
I haven't had a chance to plug in the guitar as I have a baby to contend with these days,
but I hope to get an hour in here and there to throw a few riffs together. I doubt the Corona Virus will have any effect on the style or quality of the music in any way, though.
Have had a bit of a creative surge music wise the last week or so yea, the extra free time of course helps and I think the change of pace in day to day life is great for allowing your mind to wander, instead of having the usual cloud of work thoughts, appointments, social commitments etc that usually hang over everything
Drummer myself. Thankfully I have a electronic kit in my confinement. Learning a lot of linear/triplet grooves. Basically stuff I wouldn't normally play to expand the knowledge.
Been getting a good bit of music done with the free time and being locked up in the house!
Released 2 videos with one of my bands We Come In Pieces- both songs written and recorded after this isolation happened.

Did a few live streams with my band Shardborne and some other mates before we couldn't meet as a group. Have another 3-4 songs with We Come in Pieces in the recording stage and then getting the Shardborne album no 2 finished.
if this continues I could see myself trying to write for some other projects too.
Started a few tunes from scratch, ended up with the bones of seven songs demo'd in some form but they're so far removed from the Third Island stuff I dunno what the lads will make of them, and may end up finishing either on my own or with Astfgyl for Antihuman depending on how outlandish they get. As they flesh out a bit / more gets written, it's probably going to be two EPs of stuff for two bands.
Either way the writing was coming out thick and strong for the first few days, less so the last week so I've just been thinking over the demos and building pedals instead. Going tearing my pedalboard apart tomorrow for a fresh approach and spending the weekend recording again to see what happens.
Myself and a couple of dude I regularly make music with did a song there very recently, it came out way better in part due to confinement. I had the time to spend hours on YouTube consuming information on how to make a mix sound cool, so it's by far the best heavy mix I've done to date !
Here is something I was working on a few months ago. Up to my sack in college work and work-work.
Now that I'm getting out of work earlier the last few weeks, I'm going to get back to it.
Along the lines of Morbid Angel / Deicide / Adorior / AngelCorpse / Massacre.
I was jamming on a Massacre song (forget which one) and kinda borrowed (ahem) a bit from it.
Sound is shite, but you'll get the idea.

Sounds good, man. Get some brutal drumming and vocals going and a filthy production and you'll be ag gáire, go tobann!

Constantly creating these last few weeks for a few different outlets. Looking forward to getting it all out there!
Disconnect decided to revisit some 2011-2012 material with our old vocalist, added a second guitar track to it all and tuned it down to our nowadays 8-string tuning. Industrial/death metal for anyone interested, available here. (https://disconnectuk.bandcamp.com/album/isolate-compilate)
I had a listen to Disconnect there I enjoyed it. It was only on the laptop speakers though so a lot of the detail was probably lost on me
I'm doing a load of moody/dark techno recently. Neighbours are loving it.

Stick it up on the Electrónica thread if you've anything online...
I compose a lot of metal in MIDI (I blame playing a lot of Doom back in the day ), wrote this over the weekend ->

I've been trying to get some lyrics together but it's not really happening for me. Did manage to get a few riffs going over the last few weeks though.

Not exactly 'creation', but anyway... Fucking love this song!!! Just a total fucking riff-fest and very enjoyable to play.
From my favourite album of the 2010s.

Remixing bits and pieces as I figure out how to use certain apps/software packages. Will stick up a link shortly.
Been listening to a lot of Vader lately and threw a few of my own Vader style riffs together.

I made some sort of mostly electronic EP with a few bare distorted guitars on it. Absolutely did not set out to do it, but the songs started writing themselves that way, one of them started out as an attempt at a sort of funeral doom-ish bass line but turned into an NIN rip off. Suddenly I had 5 songs that aren't metal at all. Was up trying to put vocals on them yesterday because fuck it I may as well finish it off and stick it up online, but the vox are slow going because I'm not great lol. Still, happy to have something finished from the few months of confinement.
I had the idea of starting a thrash band last year and as my previous band, Stereo Nasty, were heading more and more in that direction towards the end it seemed like the natural thing to do.
After writing a few songs though I had one of my "what am I doing? Give up now and save yourself the trouble" freak outs and pulled the plug on the whole thing. I picked it back up in March though and kept at it until Trackmix reopened last month. I got eight songs down and also did vocals which was a first for me. I'm going to put out next month but here's a song off it in the meantime.

John Petrucci spent confinement becoming Rasputin:

Holy fuck
Started writing John Carpenter style synthwave-esque stuff over the break, which came as a surprise to me as I'd never had any intention of doing synthwave inspired stuff. I'd picked up the Boss SY-1 synth pedal just before the lockdown, been watching a ton of 80s horrors during lockdown, and it just kind of happened naturally...
My first attempt at recording some 'original' material... The drums were a fucking pain in the arse to program. I'm using the word program loosely - the drums were a pain in the arse to 'drag and drop' would be more accurate. There are a few dodgy bits here and there. For example, there are too many snare hits on some of the blast beats during the verse. Also, I'm not entirely happy with the verse riff, I'll probably go back and try something different with that part when I have time. I was trying to do something in the early AngelCorpse style, but I'm not mad about the riff at all. Maybe it's just the fact that there are currently no vocals on the track and the riff needs to hold it's own for 30 seconds without them. I'm pretty happy with the intro, chorus and outro / breakdown, they hold their own as they are, which is adding to the notion that the verse riff is weak. The intro is more or less Slayers Black Magic sped up with a few different note choices (you might have noticed that anyway). The outro is done in the Vital Remains / AngelCorpse style, right down to the flanging effect you hear in 'Wartorn' from Exterminate album. Hoping to get 5 tracks demoed by the New Year.
Any feedback, insults etc... welcome

Not the style of metal I'd be into at all but that sounds tight as fuck!
I program all my drums as well but I use guitar pro to do them which is way easier.
That's class. I'd reconsider the approach of essentially robbing other bands' riffs and altering them as it's a cop out, and judging by your playing you could easily come up with your own original ideas. I love the flanger abuse. More more more! The programming sounds good to me too. Lash some nasty vocals over it all and it'll be a winner.
Yes, I'm quickly finding out that being original is difficult!!! Also, writing riffs is a piece of piss, writing songs is a nightmare!
Anyway, that's the sort of stuff that comes out when I sit down to play, so I tend to just let it happen.
That style is definitely what I'm shooting for. The goal is to be as original as I can be within the confines of that style.
Time will tell.
To me it doesn't really matter if its original once the songs are good.
There's original and then there's original, knowwarroimean? ???
Got a new band called Vespertilian on the go over the course of this whole covid business. Tis coming along well. Surreal death metal kinda. More details in good time. Not being able to gig for the foreseeable has given us the luxury of time to develop it.
Dunno if people are aware of how many new records we're going to have next year as a result of this situation, seems like every band in the country has been recording over the last few months!
Except for Bacterium :(
And Astral Tomb come to think of it !

Looking forward to hearing it - think ye'll have a demo or anything out this year?
Very interesting stuff from the bits and pieces I've heard so far. Big In Flames buzz to much of it.
Wed like to but we're in no rush
Yeah definitely leaning harder on the newer In Flames/Gojira/Machine Head influence for sure. Having a turntablist in the band has really opened the sound up
Had multiple beers last night while try to figure out a new piece of gear. Eventually came up with this.

Having listened to a good few things of yours, that sounds like sarcasm.

That was pretty deadly, getting good use out of the new drum machine there!
I have four song templates recorded now. Just uploaded this one to Soundcloud. I think this is the best of the bunch.
I'm going to re-record and double track the guitars tomorrow.
The sound isn't the best on it, I didn't really bother to mix it.
I'll get a better version of it uploaded by Monday.

That's your best riffing yet lad, some vicious speeds on the picking there, keep writing & experimenting! I'd suggest taking advantage of the double tracking with some Morbid riff harmonies, and it'd be good to hear some leads thrown in here & there.
The genre diversity quotas on this island are lacking in some ripping oldschool Florida style stuff so it'd be whopper to flesh this out into a full on project/band.
Thanks, mate. I'll add solos eventually, I just want to get a few songs in the bag before I add the bells and whistles.
I've already had a drummer contact me on Facebook who wants to lay down some proper drum tracks.
He's a savage drummer, he can do 220bpm no bother, but he's based in Switzerland.
One of his mates has a studio over there so he suggested I send him the guitar files and they can do some on their end.
I'll probably get a bass in the New year, just so I can fill out the sound on the demo tracks I'm doing.
As for vocals, I won't be doing them. I haven't put the feelers out for a vocalist yet. I'll wait until I have more material written.
This is the first song that I'm happy with. The song I uploaded to Soundcloud was the template for it.
I cut a few riffs and added a few new ones.
it's better to listen to it at half volume, sounds shite cranked up.

Ahhhh, you keep coming up as a suggestion on my instagram. Have watched the vids. Good stuff, man and great to hear that things might start taking shape for a release.
Cheers, lad. I follow Malthusian on IG, probably why I'm showing up.
I'm back to college tomorrow, so I won't be able to put as much time into it as I'd like.
But hopefully, I'll get something out by the end of next year.
Sounds great man.

Yeah, almost everyone I know in a band is planning, or has recorded new music over this period. I think it's going to be an insane period for releases once the measures against COVID start to come down. Bandcamp Fridays are going to be a tsunami of music, and a lot will probably be lost in the sheer amount of stuff being released.
